Let’s raise a glass to Wanstead. Another successful September of Fringe and Festival, community and culture, laughs and learning, talks and tours, socialising and shows. Let’s raise a glass to the organisers, Vision RCL, who stage the annual Wanstead Festival, and the visionaries, who, 10 years ago, decided Wanstead needed a Fringe. How right they were. This year’s offerings started back in early September, and if you were quick off the mark to pick up this issue, the last of the 100-plus events will still be on the bill. Let’s raise a glass to the actors, the singers, the comedians, the speakers, the authors, the artists, the musicians and all the creative minds who collaborated to bring their slice of culture to our doorsteps. Let’s raise a glass to the venues, the pubs, the bars, the cafés, the churches, the library, the schools, the halls, the galleries, the rugby club and all those in between that are part of the fabric of Wanstead. Let’s raise a glass to the audiences, the kids experiencing openair cinema, the parents tasting wine, the friends laughing at comedy, the families exploring the jumble trail, the couples taking in a show together, the neighbours enjoying a concert and the community watching as one. Let’s raise a glass once more to Wanstead, to all it has to offer, the established and the new, the events well-versed and those beginning to brew (Wanstead Beer Festival pun intended).
