Rules and responsibilities
U-turns
When making a U-turn you must:
• have a clear view of traffic in
either direction
• signal your intention for
a reasonable time
• give way to all other vehicles
and pedestrians
• safely complete your U-turn
without disrupting other traffic.
You must not make a U-turn:
• over double continuous lines
• over a single continuous line
• where there is a No U-turn sign.
If the sign is not at an intersection
continue on until you reach an
intersection before you make a U-turn.

Where there is no median, it is
advisable that the U-turn be made
from the left side of the road.
Remember to watch out for traffic
approaching from behind you.
