A NIGHT OF CELEBRATION
THE SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD
on Saturday the 23rd of September, our
staff, volunteers and their family
gathered at the Holburn bar for the
spirit of community awards.
It was a great night of celebration of
dedicated volunteers, who help the
community in numerous ways.
The fantastic Kenny Luke was the
compere for the evening who ensured the
award recipients story of volunteering
and dedication was read out before we
all enjoyed a tremendous buffet and
entertainment from the one & only Maree Andrew Harrington receiving

NEW CARPET FOR OUR GYM!
We are not done renovating our centre! This month, we
changed the carpet in the gym. It wasn’t an easy task, when
you have to move all the gym machines several times!
Our fitness gym is a low cost yet
high quality facility that offers a
wide range of equipment that
should caters for everyone’s
needs.
With extensive opening hours,
relaxed atmosphere, ever

improving equipment, and a new
carpet, it really is a tremendous
bargain and ideal space to get fit
and healthy.

ENJOY OUR PLAYPARK THIS WINTER
While it’s always nicer to play outside during the summer, our
playpark will stay open all winter. Our café stays open too for
hot drinks while the kids are playing! We look forward to
seeing you this winter enjoying the facilities.

NEW FLOOR IN THE SMALL HALL
AND CORRIDOR
Not only did we change the carpet in the gym, we also removed
it from the corridor and the small hall. There is a lot of
changes going on at the centre, and the work for the extension
as not even started yet!
We are in the process of making
several significant improvements
and investment into your
favourite centre where in
addition to the gym upgrades, we
have repainted and re-floored the
small hall and the large corridor.
these changes make the space fell
cleaner, warmer and more
welcoming while easier to clean.
We hope you like the upgrades
and look out for more
improvements in the next Inchy!

VOLUNTEER’S CORNER:
VOLUNTEERING EVENTS!
They are lots of ways to recruit new volunteers, but one of the
best is by going to volunteering events and meeting people in
person!
In the spirit of volunteering
opportunities, Jules, the Volunteer
Coordinator, has been and will be
going to some events around
Aberdeen to promote volunteering
at Inchgarth.
The first event he went to was in
Cults on the 6th of September.
Jules was able to do a presentation
for the S6 students that take
personal and social education.
There were 6 groups he talked to,
each had about 20 kids. He got to
speak about the Community
Centre and its work. He focused
on the Youth Club, Monday
Phoenix Club, Gaming Club and
the Cafe afternoon. It was great to
speak to them personally, because
he got to answer all of their
questions and meet the staff at
Cults academy. This way, the
students got to talk to someone
directly from Inchgarth and
learned about what it would be
like to volunteer. Hopefully, some
of the students are interested and
will come to help!
And then lastly, Jules will be at
NESCOL to do a presentation for
some of their students. He will
visit them on the 22nd of
September to introduce Inchgarth
to the students and tell them about
what we do and what they can do
here to volunteer. At Inchgarth,
they could use their skills in a
different and practical context.
Musical skills, for example, are
essential for things such as the
new music workshop. The other
side of this partnership with
NESCOL is the opportunity to
come visit us. A few weeks later,
the students will come to the
Community Centre. To finish off
this programme, the student will
prepare a show for our members at
the end of December. The goal is
to start a strong partnership with
NESCOL that will benefit both
partners and give students some
practical experience.
The Community Centre is really
excited to begin this programme
and is looking forward to some
new people willing to help!

VOLUNTEER’S CORNER:
JOSH WATSON, SUPER HELPER!
Each month, we are going to
celebrate a volunteer in the
newsletter, let’s call it the
volunteer of the month!
This month, we want to thank
Josh, who volunteers on
Wednesday and Thursday,
helping the café with dishes
mainly.
Big shoutout to Josh, our
volunteer of the month! Josh has
helped tremendously in the past
few months. He started in the
middle of March after contacting
the Community Centre for
volunteering possibilities. After a
quick chat with Jules, he
volunteered the very next day.
Volunteering at our Community
Centre is the next step in his
volunteering journey, so we are
excited to have him here.
At first, he began helping with the
dishes on Thursday in the café.
Soon after, Josh decided to come
in on Fridays. He now volunteers
on Wednesday and Thursday, due
to change in his schedule.
This is a lot of effort and
commitment, and we are thankful
for all the effort and amazing
things Josh is doing.
The Community Centre is very
grateful for all of Josh’s hard
work. It is also nice that he is
always in a good mood, smiling
and friendly to the people that
come in. With his energetic
attitude he puts other people, be it
customer or co-worker, in a good
mood as well. With the support
people, such as Josh, give the
Community Centre thrives and
runs well. So, we wanted to let
him know that he is appreciated!

you do.
