TESA MORIN Boundaries for Self-Preservation, 2023 Acrylic + Fabric on Canvas, 14” x 14” Juror: Enrique Fernández Cervantes These pieces are from the Borders/Boundaries series in which I explore the ways people, land, and ideas are divided. The work often includes ravens as symbols for human behavior. For this exhibit, I chose two pieces that specifically deal with communication. In boundaries for self-preservation, the fence fabric provides protection from angry or hateful words. There are, however, gaps in the fence that could allow some of the energy to get through. The other piece, the breakup, shows a lack of communication. The birds turn away from each other and the rain gets in between. The erosion of exchanging ideas and active listening causes separation. 33
