ECA REVIEW HANNA/CORONATION/STETTLER, AB October 26'23 11 OBITUARIES Many interests centered around farm life Carol Jane Stulberg, a long-time resident of the Endiang community passed away on Oct. 18, 2023 at Castor, Alta. at the age of 91 years. Carol was born on April 2, 1932 in Hanna, Alta. She was the sixth of eight children born to Dr. John Stanley Paxman and Edith Caroline (nee Gamey) Paxman. She grew up on a farm in the Meadowlands district, a short distance northeast of Hanna, with her siblings Bill, Cliff, Bernice, Mary, Irene, Eva and Verna. Carol’s mother died when she was six years old. Her Stulberg father never remarried, and the older children raised the younger ones. Carol had an incredible enthusiasm for life and endless energy even into her advanced years. She was a softspoken, gentle person, yet was extremely strong and independent. She was ambitious and had a multitude of interests and was never idle. Carol had a positive outlook on life and never complained. She was fun to be around. She loved her family more than anything and was a loyal friend. Carol was often described by many by one simple word — amazing! Carol married the love of her life, Jack Stulberg on March 16, 1952. They purchased a farm at Endiang, Alta. and built a new home, which they finished inside as they could afford. She lived in that same house for the next 71 years until her passing at 91 years. She never wanted to live anywhere else. They had wonderful friends and neighbours. Jack and Carol were active community members and volunteers. Jack had lost his right arm in a farm accident when he was 25 and Carol literally became his right arm. They worked side by side everyday doing the daily work a farm required and built up a farming operation with their sons that she was very proud of. Carol and Jack had two sons, Les born in 1955 and Larry born in 1958 who both became involved in the family farm with their families. Carol was confirmed into the Lutheran faith in 1956 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Scapa, Alta. She was a believer in God her entire life. Carol loved every aspect of farm life with harvest being a favourite as she enjoyed hauling grain from the combine. She also loved the cattle operation and the people she met during the time raising purebred Simmentals. She was a welcoming hostess - the coffee pot was always on and the door always open. It seemed everyone who came to the farm got fed, or at the very least served a coffee and some homebaked goodies. Growing and caring for her many flowers topped Carol’s list of interests. She had an amazing green thumb. Carol had a beautifully maintained yard and it gave her much enjoyment. One year she won the trophy for best rural or urban yard in the Stettler area. She managed to maintain her large yard meticulously, even in her final year of life. Her other interests included gardening and preserving, floor curling, playing cards, visiting friends and family, watching curling - with her favourite teams being Kevin Koe and Jennifer Jones, listening to country music – especially Charley Pride, watching her favourite daytime soaps always recorded to watch in the evenings and baking, much to the delight of her family. She was a great cook and baker; everyone loved her Tomato Soup cake with brown sugar icing, as Funeral service for Hansel Maxine Patricia Hansel was born in the Stettler Hospital on July 16, 1936; the second youngest of five children. Maxine passed away in Stettler on Oct. 15, 2023 at the age of 87 years. Maxine will be lovingly remembered by her daughters: Deborah Bince of Lethbridge, Susan (Jim) Renschler of Botha, Alta. and Aleta Nichols of Botha; son Lyne (Marina) Hansel of Gadsby; grandchildren: Daniel Rand (formerly known as James), Teresa Lees, Kelly Nichols, Shelley Swaren, Jody (Michelle) Renschler, Rusty Nichols (Melissa Burton), Christopher (Amber) Hansel and Collin (Becky) Hansel; great-grandchildren: Samantha Carpenter, Vincent Arelis, Victoria Arelis, Jayden Swaren, Madison Swaren, Charlie Renschler, McKenna Renschler, Everly Renschler, Terrance Nichols, Sierra Nichols, Raeleigh Nichols, Nash Nichols, Gavin Hansel, Caleb Hansel, Wren Hansel and Ria Hansel. Also survived by sister Elpha (Ron) Senft; brothers-in-law Bill (Joyce) Hansel and Gary Larson; numerous nieces and nephews; other family members and many dear friends and neighbours. Maxine was predeceased by her loving husband Joe Hansel, parents Russell and Pearl Haner, parents in-law Lloyd and Pearl Hansel, sisters: Mildred (Bruce) McMillian, Blanche (Jerry) McKay, Annice (Ray) Erichsen, brother-in-law Victor Hansel, sister-in-law Lavina Larson, and son-in-law Eugene Nichols, as well as other family and friends. A funeral service for the late Maxine Hansel will be held at the Stettler United Church, Stettler, Alta. on Fri. Also survived by grandchildren, Travis Stulberg; Alicia (Cody) Scheerschmidt and their children Hayden, Easton and Tesily; Tyler (Samantha) Stulberg and their children Beckett and Ella; and Krystal (Robert) Stoutenberg and their children Jack and Boyd and her brother-in-law Joe Engelman and many nieces and nephews. Carol Stulberg was predeceased by her beloved husband of 51 years, Jack in 2003; by her parents Dr. John and Edith Paxman; all of her siblings, Bill (Pauline) Paxman, Cliff (Hilda) Paxman, Bernice (Albert) Zeimer, Mary (Leonard) Smith, Irene (Walter) Sarabin, Eva (Ray) Ergang and Verna Engelman. Also by her parents-in-law Gus and Emma Stulberg, brothers and sistersin-law Caroline Stulberg, Pauline (Herman) Ziemmer, Martha (Ben) Keibel, Lenore (Reinhold) Dewald, Walter (Bernice) Stulberg, Lawrence (Martha) Stulberg and by her nieces Judy Ergang, Judy Mulgrove, Margaret Cook and Donna Keibel, nephews Stan Paxman, John Paxman and Corey Stulberg. Passion for farming, animals, music and art It is with great sadness the family of Edward Norman ‘Eddie” Dahmer announces his passing at the Stettler Hospital on Oct. 17, 2023, peacefully with family at his side. Edward Norman Dahmer was born Nov. 14, 1940, the second child of Henry and Peggy Dahmer. He spent the first years of his life on the family homestead north of Endiang, Alta. then in 1943 Henry purchased the Scott farm south of Halkirk where Eddie called home for the rest of his life. He attended Daisy Bank School for one year, and then bussing began to the Halkirk School. Eddie graduated high school in Halkirk and went to SAIT for an Agricultural Mechanics course. He started farming with his dad where they built up a herd of Herdford and Angus cattle. He had a special place for all animals, the horses he rode, cattle he raised, pet dogs and cats and the multitude of wildlife around the farm. Eddie loved music and taught himself to play guitar. Special family memories are of Eddie playing guitar with his dad Henry on violin and his sister Elaine on the piano. He was also a talented artist and learned to create beautiful pieces of leather work. Many friends and family got hand-tooled belts, wallets, purses or pictures that Eddie spent hours creating. His father Henry passed away suddenly in 1972 and soon after his brother Rocky started to farm with him. Together they built a new house for their mom and continued to build most of the buildings and corrals on the farm. The farm expanded over the years and more grain and oilseed crops were grown and Limousin and Charolais breeds were introduced to raise the tan calves he was proud of. Eddie stayed active on the Dalmer farm until 2019 when he decided to move to the Paintearth Lodge. He received excellent care at the Lodge and enjoyed feeding the birds and rabbits that lived on the grounds. He drove out to the farm almost every Sunday to see how many new calves were born, or how much rain had fallen or how the crops were yielding. He would check the cattle and would give the cows a friendly scratch. Eddie was born with a heart condition, a hole in the heart and many doctors over the years believed he would not survive for long, however he fooled them all. He was a talented and knowledgeable man who was kind, gentle and very quiet. It turns out he had a huge heart and generously gave everything he had worked so hard for to his family so they have an opportunity to continue what he cared so much for. His passion for farming and animals, music and art can be seen in the hearts of the family he leaves behind. Eddie is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Rocky and Louanne Dahmer, their children Alison and Tye Boehlke, Ryan and Lindsey Dahmer, and Katelyn Dahmer, and his grandniece Macklynn Boehlke all of Halkirk. He is also survived by his nieces Verta and Rod Delainey, Valerie and Brian Wilson, Lisa Wells and nephew Lane and Gabriel Wells, and their families, as well as his aunt Irene Duncan and numerous cousins. Eddie was predeceased by his father and mother Henry and Peggie Dahmer and his sister Elaine and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A Come and Go Memorial Gathering will be held at the Halkirk Community Hall on Fri.
