Orange Blairgowrie – Raising Awareness
about Ending Violence Against Women
and about Soroptimist International
By the time you read this, local Associate Soroptimist
Jean Campbell, will have sought support from
Blairgowrie and Alyth shopkeepers to raise awareness
about the different forms of violence against women.
You may recall last year that the Wellmeadow was
festooned with orange ribbons and posters. And even
more importantly, many shopkeepers either displayed
posters or even better entered an orange window
competition raising awareness of the issue of violence against women and its many forms. This
all took place between 25th November and 10th December, the UN’s designated 16 Days of
Activism to End Violence Against Women.
Jean is delighted that the orange window competition will take place again this year - and again
with cash prizes! She will visit shops at the beginning of November with posters and competition
entry forms and hopes to ‘orange’ Blairgowrie - and Alyth - raising awareness about the different
forms of violence against women, orange being an optimistic colour.

That nip in the air has certainly come back
and bit us in the bum. No wonder we do so
many free deliveries of slow burning logs,
kindling, peet, local tatties and groceries.
The most wonderful time of the year is just
around the corner. In the store we have a
variety of hampers ready to pick up and go or
you can specify your own one to make it more
personal. Gift vouchers are also available to
buy to use in store if you just don’t know what
to get. There is a fantastic display of gift box
treats and sweets which won’t be in any other
shop and we have opened our order book for
gift boxes of homemade shortbread, Custard
Creams, Empire Biscuits and assorted tiffin.
These sell out fast so don’t delay as it makes a
perfect wee mindin’.
For those who send abroad, The Blairgowrie Calendar would be a perfect gift as well as
supporting three local charities.
We value each and every one of you that supports our wee shop on the high street and count
ourselves extremely lucky.
