Winners of the prestigious<br />
Lilly Endowment Community<br />
Scholarship (LECS)<br />
were recently announced for<br />
Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio,<br />
and Ripley Counties. Recipients<br />
receive a four-year,<br />
full-tuition scholarship to the<br />
Indiana college of their choice<br />
along with a $900 yearly<br />
stipend for required books and<br />
equipment.<br />
The scholarships are the<br />
result of a statewide Lilly<br />
Endowment initiative to help<br />
Hoosier students reach higher<br />
levels of education. One hundred<br />
forty-three scholarships<br />
were awarded statewide.<br />
Dearborn County<br />
Two Dearborn County high<br />
school seniors are the <strong>2024</strong><br />
recipients of a prestigious<br />
Lilly Endowment Community<br />
Scholarship. The Dearborn<br />
Community Foundation<br />
(DCF) staff made surprise<br />
visits to award the full-tuition<br />
scholarships to East Central<br />
High School’s Alexandra<br />
Seubert and Oldenburg Academy’s<br />
Lily Dennis.<br />
“Alexandra and Lily epitomize<br />
what the Lilly Endowment<br />
Community Scholarship<br />
is all about community involvement,<br />
academic achievement,<br />
character, and leadership,”<br />
said Fred McCarter,<br />
Executive Director of DCF.<br />
“They were selected from<br />
among a competitive group of<br />
applicants for this high honor<br />
and our community should be<br />
very proud of Alexandra, Lily,<br />
and the other four finalists.”<br />
Ms. Seubert of Hubbel’s<br />
Corner is the daughter of<br />
John and<br />
Maureen<br />
Seubert.<br />
She plans to<br />
study<br />
Marketing at<br />
Butler<br />
University<br />
Alexandra Seubert or Indiana<br />
University.<br />
Ms. Seubert shared, “I’m so<br />
happy and proud that all of<br />
my hard work and dedication<br />
paid off this way.”<br />
At East Central, Ms. Seubert<br />
has been active in many<br />
clubs and groups: National<br />
Honor Society; Family, Career<br />
and Community Leaders<br />
of America (FCCLA); Student<br />
Council; Community Advocating<br />
for Substance-Abuse<br />
Awareness (CASA); Trojan<br />
Exchange; Trojan Young Life<br />
(Leader); Girl Scouts (Silver<br />
Award); Fellowship of Christian<br />
Athletes (FCA); and All<br />
Saints Catholic Youth Ministry.<br />
As a member of FCCLA,<br />
Seubert was Vice President of<br />
the ECHS chapter and a state<br />
officer/Vice President of the<br />
State Project. As a member of<br />
FCCLA, she also earned Gold<br />
Medals for the State Chapter<br />
Service Project Portfolio and<br />
a third place for the FCCLA<br />
Nationals Gold Medal Chapter<br />
Service Project Portfolio.<br />
She’s also received the<br />
FCCLA Ultimate Leadership<br />
Award, and Indiana State FC-<br />
CLA Gold and Silver Medal<br />
Job Interviews. Seubert also<br />
participated in softball and<br />
track at ECHS. She also completed<br />
a significant number<br />
of volunteer service hours<br />
and was employed during the<br />
summer and the school year.<br />
Lily Dennis of Manchester<br />
Township is the daughter of<br />
Sara and<br />
Randy<br />
Dennis. She<br />
plans to<br />
major in<br />
Criminal<br />
Justice with<br />
a minor in<br />
Lily Dennis Political<br />
Science at<br />
Indiana University. Concerning<br />
being a new Lilly Scholar,<br />
Ms. Dennis shared, “I’m<br />
really grateful. I’m thankful. I<br />
