Herdy

Herdy was born in 2007, created by husband and wife design

team, Spencer & Diane Hannah. Whilst out walking in the Lake

District they came across a Herdwick, the native sheep which

roams free amongst the mountains of Cumbria. Its cute and

smiling face was to provide them with the inspiration for what

has become a much loved character brand, with gifts,

homeware and accessories that are made to make you smile.

Herdy is portrayed using simple bold graphics in a vibrant colour

palette and represents fun, community and kindness to its fans

and followers around the world. Herdy’s playful collection of art

combines the same bright colours, bold graphics and positive

messaging to bring joy and colour to your home.

Bev Davies

Shropshire based artist Bev Davies specialises in expressive,

characterful animal paintings. Since leaving art college in 1990,

Bev has worked as a glass artist in a family business making

bespoke chandeliers, only recently returning to her love of

painting after a hiatus of 30 years. Bev uses muted tones and a

limited palette to capture the cheeky animal faces and the

feelings and emotions that they contain. Her style is free and

distinctive, using a limited palette and a combination of

watercolour with Pen and Ink. She wants her work to quietly talk

to you and maybe, at the same time, make you smile.

Bev enjoys the challenge of interpreting new subjects with her

emerging and evolving style and palette of techniques.

Louise Brown

Louise Brown’s irresistible animal paintings appeal to a broad

audience, and their cutesy charm is enough to make anyone

smile. Based in rural Lincolnshire, Louise is surrounded by ducks,

chickens and other animals that she loves and that inspire her as

an artist. Her other subjects include cows, hares and woodland

animals. Entirely self-taught, Louise works predominantly in

acrylics and oils. Every one of her animals adopts their own quirky

expression to add an element of humour into her paintings.

Frank Pretorius

Frank Pretorius’ favourite place is in the studio, working on his art.

Whilst he never stopped painting and drawing from his earliest

years, he has only recently realised his dream of painting full-time

after a two-decade-long career in the advertising industry. The

constant promise of a blank canvas with perpetual possibilities

keeps luring him back to work on new pieces while learning,

experimenting and advancing his craft. Frank’s process involves

initially constructing the imagery and then breaking it down

through a process of deconstruction and finally rebuilding back

to a representational image with a certain amount of abstraction.

He employs traditional materials, charcoal and ink on paper and

oil paints on canvas, to capture light’s elusive quality of

transforming figures and landscapes within moments while

pursuing snippets of the narrative of life as he experiences it. By

transporting the ambience of his surroundings and securing it on

canvas and paper, he takes an interval of time and interprets what

it is like to be conscious of his surroundings in that moment.

Avril Thomson Smith

Avril Thomson Smith is a self-taught artist born and raised on the

Shetland Islands in Scotland. Avril works from her home studio in

Lerwick, where she creates captivating paintings of the Shetland

landscape. Childhood playgrounds have been a constant source

of inspiration to Avril, who has very fond memories of playing at

her Grannies croft on the south mainland of Shetland.

Climbing hills, casting peats, building haystacks, and digging up

tatties have cemented an appreciation for the old Shetland way of

life and instilled a love and appreciation of the remarkable

landscape. Shetland croft houses are set in the most stunning

locations, some occupied, others sadly abandoned. Each little

house is unique and quaint. Avril adores the summer season,

where vibrant coloured wildflowers appear all over the island. The

combination of colour and the freedom of art has developed into

a stunning collection of acrylic croft house artwork which portrays

the Shetland Landscape in all its splendour.

Jane Bannon

Norfolk born Jane Bannon is a self-taught artist, specialising in

stunning watercolours of farmyard and domestic animals. Art has

always played an important part in Jane’s life, and after a career in

insurance, she finally decided to devote herself full time to

painting. She has found this to be an incredible journey and each

of her days is different. She is the happiest when painting an

animal, capturing and conveying its innermost thoughts to the

viewer. Jane now calls the beautiful market town of Bungay,

Suffolk, home. She lives in a listed cottage in the conservation

area and can be found most days on Outney Common, walking

her dogs Bella & Bertie. The cows who live in the fields opposite

her home provide an excellent source of inspiration, along with all

of the local dogs she sees on her daily walks!

Ernest Hemmingway Mustard lives in a not-so-damp basement

flat with Violet, his dear lady wife and Doris, the portly Jack

Russell Terrier. Sam Toft (their official picture maker) has created

an imaginary world based on her hometown of Brighton, where

they live a life of simple pleasures in faded ice-cream colours. A

place where kindness and generosity are the norms, the wind is

always there to blow away the cobwebs, and fish really do ride on

bicycles. “The world of Mustard with its old-fashioned values and

a strong sense of whimsy is real comfort in these

unpredictable times. I am a firm believer that accepting what is,

feeling the feelings without getting caught up in them, and

sharing out the rose-tinted spectacles is the best way to proceed”.

Sam Toft lives in an old white house by the sea with her two dogs

Betty and Stan. She has a small shop nearby and has renovated

two lovely old telephone boxes, which are now used as a

community art space.

Helen Ahpornsiri

Helen Ahpornsiri (pronounced Ahh-pon-si-ree) is an Illustrator

based in East Sussex, UK. All of Helen’s uniquely beautiful

images are made using only real flowers, petals, leaves and stems.

These are all grown or foraged responsibly before being placed

in a flower press. After 1-6 weeks, the flora and foliage are flat

and ready to use – their natural colours preserved, with no dyes

or paints. Each piece is then cut and delicately positioned to form

detailed designs, brimming with the intricate twists and tangles

of plant life.

Scott Naismith

Scott Naismith graduated in 2000 with a BDes in Illustration and

printmaking and has been a full-time artist working from his

studio in Glasgow ever since. He is also a lecturer at the

Creative Arts department of West College Scotland. With the

lochs and glens of the West coast of Scotland as his favourite

subject matter, Scott regularly travels around the country

looking for inspiration for another landscape painting. His latest

work focuses on transitional skies and the colours that emerge as

light breaks through cloud. Energetic brush work combines with

vivid colours resulting in fantastically vibrant prints. These skies

that change from dark to light are Scott’s metaphor for optimism

and hope. Regularly exhibiting across Scotland, England and the

USA, Scott has built an incredible worldwide following of more

than 11,000 subscribers and over 1.4 million views on YouTube

for his demonstration and tuition videos.

Henry Rivers

Henry Rivers is a British illustrator whose mission it is to capture

the wonderful places of the world in a playful, minimalist style.

Having grown up on the Isle of Wight, art was always a big part

of his life. As a boy, he would go to a watercolour group with his

Grandma and was the youngest attendee by a good 60 years!

Henry trained as an architect before becoming an illustrator.

His keen eye for architecture shines through in his prints with his

technical drawing training evident in his re-imagining of famous

buildings. Henry’s collection of contemporary travel posters

combine his passion for travel and love of design. When away

from the studio and exploring a new place, Henry will always have

his sketchbook in hand, capturing the essence of a location in

scribbles and sketches.

Jo Grundy

Brought up on a farm in Berkshire, Jo Grundy fell in love with

nature and the English landscape from a young age, and it is easy

to see where she finds her inspiration as an artist. She has always

loved art and so trained as a graphic designer, working in this

career for 14 years. She later took time out to have her two

children, and this is when she was able to develop her painting

style. Now Jo works with a specific brand of paint called Jo Sonja

by Chroma that comes in a beautiful range of colours that helps

to give her artwork its distinctive colour palette. Jo also loves to

add texture to her paintings, letting her paintings evolve

organically. She uses a combination of mark making and mixed

media such as stitching, paper and beads which breathe an

element of fun into her paintings.

Summer Thornton

Summer Thornton is an award-winning artist-illustrator based in

The Vale of Glamorgan. After graduating in Fine Art at the

University of Arts, Norwich, Summer worked as a set designer for

the theatre before starting her career as an illustrator and

designer. Acquiring her first studio in “the wilds” of Norfolk, on

the top floor of a beautiful watermill, Summer was inspired to

create and develop an illustration portfolio. She then headed for

the bright lights of London, where she had 25 successful years in

the industry. Summer has won numerous awards, including three

of the most prestigious greeting card design awards. Summer has

combined the inspiration of her surroundings with her love for

the arts and interior design and now works out of a lovely studio

in her Welsh Cottage, enjoying the quiet life with her family.

graphic design experience, artist and archivist, Corinna Buchholz,

travels the world seeking out rare, exquisite ephemera. Back

home she creates professional, unique designs that have made

Mario Moreno

Born in South Africa in 1965, Mario Moreno moved to the city of

Malaga when he was 12 years old. A self-taught photographer,

he discovered his passion for the medium at the age of 18. He

went on to live for two exciting years in Cumbuco, Brazil, which

happens to be a fantastic place to kiteboard. Here, he developed

his Kiteboarding photography skills and accomplished numerous

cover shots in many International magazines. When he moved to

South Africa in 2006, his photography moved focus to African

wildlife and landscape photography. His work has been

internationally awarded, with several images selected as finalists

in the prestigious BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year

competition. Mario continues his search around the African

continent for that “ Perfect Moment “ . . .
