The Memphis Chess
Club, the second-oldest in
the United States, is more
than just a chess haven;

Nerd Nite is Memphis
Chess Club's monthly
gathering, inspired by
the Nerd Nite at the now
defunct bar, Rec Room.

But Nerd Night delves into
all sorts of fun intellectual
spaces outside of matches.
These monthly Nerd Nites
are known for seamlessly

from chess, roller derby,
metallurgy, Memphis history,
and more. And each night
maintains a family-friendly
atmosphere. Speakers have

best-selling author Scott
McEwen and commentator
Otis Sanford, and the group
is constantly planning more
to feature. After each talk,
a Q&A session is held to
foster a welcoming space
for all curious minds. They
even have musical acts to
excite the crowd.
While most topics are
embraced, the emphasis is

talks. The club aims to
