NIKKI ADDIMANDO UPDATE
We are happy to share with you that Nikki Addimando
was released from prison on January 4th. She is
reunited with her children and surrounded by loving
friends and family that are welcoming her home. Her
sentence was reduced by the Supreme Court’s Appellate
Division under the Domestic Violence Survivors Justice
Act (DVSJA).
The DVSJA allows the sentencing court to resentence a domestic violence
survivor who suffered sexual, psychological, or physical abuse that
contributed to his or her conviction under certain conditions. The survivor
must be currently incarcerated and serving a sentence of 8 years or more.
The DVSJA provides survivors who were convicted with a chance.
Hope’s Door was a proud supporter of the movement to have Nikki released.
BUDGET ADVOCACY
Hope’s Door and thousands of victims across New
York State (NYS) gratefully acknowledge Governor
Kathy Hochul’s support of victim services reflected
in her Executive Budget.
Hope’s Door and other advocates were in
Albany on February 28th to ask New York
State Senators and Assembly Members to
maintain the Governor’s recommendations
in their one house budget bills.

Hope’s Door Office Staff
FEBRUARY WAS TEEN DATING VIOLENCE
AWARENESS MONTH (TDVAM)!
According to the CDC, 1 in 12 high school
students experience dating violence. As part of
the national movement to raise awareness on the
issue and send a message that abuse will not be
tolerated, staff wore ORANGE on Tuesday
February 6th.
Hope’s Door, through its Youth Prevention Program,
works to empower youth with skills to distinguish
relationships based on power and control, from those
based on equality, respect, and trust. We educate
teens on strategies to help themselves and their peers
in confronting abuse.
If you’d like our Youth Prevention team to meet with
youth in your community, please reach out to:
