BE FREE.
BE YOURSELF.
Everything about you is unique: your body, your personality, your beliefs,
desires and dreams. We are fortunate to have the freedom to express
this and to live in a self-determined way according to our individual style.
With bright
colours and
statement pieces,
we support women
in living their
personal style
freely and with
confidence.
I personally appreciate the freedom of not having a dress code in my job.
This allows me to create new looks with my beloved sneakers every day
– and to remain completely myself at all times. This spring, I'm particularly
excited about the new Tamaris sneakers styles with bright colours and
cool denim. But I also enjoyed being inspired by classic "French chic" at
the opening of our first flagship store in Paris. You can find some tips and
inspiration in this magazine.
What for some is their expressive look, for others is the words they use
to dress themselves. Just like for poet and songwriter Clara Louise in our
portrait, who fought her way out of a personal crisis with poetry and
willpower. She is one of the strong women from our YouTube community
who inspire us and keep us in mind with their stories: Be aware of
yourself and stand up for your dreams. Continue to develop yourself.
Free yourself from constraints and break free once in a while. Because
it's worth taking this freedom for yourself!
Poet Clara
thoughts
Denim – the
endless
possibilities
Whether it's using colour to brighten up the still
grey days or taking your first spring walk in your new
sneakers – what special feeling of freedom are you
looking forward to this season?
What woman doesn't want to reinvent herself
every now and then ? This is not just the case during
the dreary season, but also to the darker moments
of life: it is time to bring colour back into life.
What would your future look like if you painted
it in the most dazzling colours? How would
you express joie de vivre in your style?
One thing is for sure: our favourite colour for
spring is PINK – not only because it helps us
break through the grey winter dreariness, Tamaris
is also one of the supporters of the PINK
STYLE TOUR – a series of makeover events
for women who have been diagnosed with breast
cancer and are fi nding their way back into
everyday life. The initiative organised by event
3QUESTIONS FOR …
INES THÖMEL is a stylist
and together with Maike Grimpe
founder of the Pink Style Tour.
How did you come up with the idea for the
PINK STYLE TOUR? As a stylist, I often deal with
women who are unhappy with their bodies and struggle
to fi nd clothes that fi t. When two friends of mine were
diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of 2022 and I
was able to experience fi rst-hand how quickly they changed
– mentally and physically – it really affected me. I
knew that I wanted to do something. Preferably something
that I can combine with my work. Since I used to do
a lot of makeovers, it was obvious: a head-to-toe styling
with real professionals who have all the tips on how to
feel good again quickly.
Although many women have beaten the disease,
they still struggle with the changes. Do
they find it difficult to accept their new self?
Most of the women we have met have learnt a lot of
positive things from their illness. They understand that
hair grows back and that their style may change, but can
also be adapted to a new fi gure. But when women lose
their feminine characteristics, it is a huge turning point.
These women do not want to look ill and be stigmatised.
We support them in this because feeling good in
your own skin is good for the soul and helps you to
get well.
Does colour play an important role in styling?
Of course, we want to meet life in a colourful way, to
brighten up the dreary (hospital) routine with colour.
We look individually at which colours suit the women,
and give them helpful impulses to "dare" to be colourful.
Because many people don't dare to wear colourful
styles – whether they have breast cancer or not.
Trends come and go, but the French look with its combination of timeless
In this wonderfully amusing book, the four French friends Anne
Fragrances are very intimate, they emphasise personality
PORTRAIT
FREEDOM
Freedom
comes when
we let go
Clara Louise lives for the words.
She reaches a lot of people with her
posts, especially on Instagram. But
alongside her success, depression is
also part of her life. When the burden
of the days becomes too heavy,
she creates a place where her
thoughts can dwell. In this interview,
she talks about how songwriting and
poetry became a mirror of her soul.
Have you often felt lonely with your thoughts?
Yes, absolutely. As a teenager, I didn't talk about certain
thoughts with anyone except my therapist, so I didn't realise
that we all think and feel quite similarly. That's why it's so
healing when people talk about their dark thoughts and difficult
feelings so that we understand that we all belong together,
which makes it much easier to deal with because we no
longer believe that something is wrong with us.
You then processed this "head chaos" in words.
How did this come about? It started when I was about
13 years old. Mostly in the evening, when I couldn't sleep, because
it was a difficult time for me, when I had to deal with all
kinds of emotions. Writing and making music has always helped
me a lot. Doing something where I really had the feeling
that I could be completely myself and not be judged, but could
simply let out everything that was inside me.
STRONG
WOMEN,
STRONG
WORDS
Your first novel, "Über mir die Wolke" (the
cloud above me), tells the story of a mental illness
that darkens your life. You yourself are always
standing in the shadow of this cloud. Would
you like to tell us about it? The book is about a personal
crisis that the main character is going through and can't quite
put his finger on. On her journey, she experiences step by
step, especially through contact with other people, that there
is hope – even if there is not always an easy solution. This can
be a mental illness, such as depression, but just as easily a crisis
that most of us experience in the course of our lives. I have
experienced two depressive episodes in my past, which were
of course very stressful and turned my life upside down. However,
I have also learnt a lot about myself and other people
during these times and am stronger than ever as a result. It
may sound absurd, but when you are on the other side of life
again, you develop a gratitude for the darkness, because it
forms the contrast to the bright aspects of life.
When did you first have the feeling that you were
suffering from depression? I had severe sleep disorders
in my youth. The first step was to go to the GP and when they
ruled out purely physical causes, I was referred to an adolescent
therapist who then started to treat the depressive episode
together with me. I was lucky that my parents were very
open and supportive when it came to mental health issues. I
have heard many other stories and it is fatal if someone does
not seek help because it is not accepted or even ridiculed in
their environment.
"WHEN I STARTED TO STOP
BEING SO HARD ON MYSELF,
THE REST OF THE WORLD
BECAME SOFTER TOO."
Clara Louise creatively expresses her feelings in her flat
in Salzburg: She transforms her "head chaos" into art,
creating music and poetry full of depth.
18 19

FREEDOM
Do you see poetry as an outlet to give free rein to
your feelings? Poetry is a kind of liberation for me. When I
write, I feel like I get to know myself better, process a lot of
things and find out what's going on inside me. It helps me to get
rid of thoughts that I can't express.
So your poetry books are a kind of public diary? My
poems are largely autobiographical and often come from my
subconscious. I just start writing. Sometimes I don't even remember
that I wrote a particular poem and/or even what I
wanted to say with it. In any case, the poems leave enough
room for manoeuvre so that you can find yourself in them.
"FOR ME, FREEDOM MEANS
DECIDING FOR MYSELF
HOW I APPROACH THE
WORLD AND MYSELF."
You manage to touch people with your words.
When did you realise that you had this special gift? I
never saw it as a gift, but rather as something that was good for
me personally. I also never intended to share my poems with
other people, it came about rather spontaneously when I started
collecting older poems and suddenly the idea of immortalising
them in a book came up. I didn't believe that anyone would
The 31-year-old is one of the most successful German-language
poets of modern times. Her self-published poetry books have
landed her on the SPIEGEL bestseller list several times and she
touches almost 200,000 people on Instagram as @missclaralouise.
be interested in my lyrics. I didn't even realise they were poems
because they rarely rhyme. I always thought that was a
condition.
You now have a large community on Instagram.
Can you help others there with your lyrics who are
going through similar phases? Yes, I get this feedback
very often and it always touches me. Readers entrust me with
many personal stories and feelings. It often feels surreal, but
it's a nice feeling when you can help other people and it's definitely
the engine that keeps me writing, it's given it a higher
purpose that doesn't just include myself.
Are your works always influenced by personal experiences
or do you also find inspiration in other
things? Even when I write about other people and their experiences,
there is always a part of me in it. We are all similar,
but still individual. It's probably a bit like the game "Chinese
whispers", where something always changes slightly from person
to person. I generally talk a lot about my own experiences
and feelings. It is a process. But by the time the music or lyrics
are published, I'm often already somewhere else emotionally.
It is good to record these individual steps in life in order to
realise that you are constantly evolving.
What is there first – a word, a melody or a concrete
feeling? Both are different. A poem begins with a white space
and then the words come out of me and I hear the sound of
the lines, see images. It is almost a spiritual process. With songwriting,
I almost always start with the music, my guitar, then a
melody and then the appropriate lyrics, which are already defined
together with the melody in terms of content. I love
working like this because you don't really have control over
the process and it always feels magical when things just flow.
How important is creative downtime for you to
create space for new ideas? For me personally, it is important
that I am free and don't have to create in order to be
alive. I need to feel that I can decide for myself. Pressure or
stress can have a strong influence on creativity and, as art is
often something very personal, it then has an impact on overall
well-being. It is therefore very important to take a good look
at yourself and not compare yourself with other people.
Speaking of live: People can see you live again in
April. What can we expect on this tour? Oh yes! I'm
really looking forward to it! A flowing connection between
music and poetry awaits us. Lyrics that raise questions and
perhaps offer answers. A range of emotions and a warm, be-
"PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS HAVE
A NEED FOR ANSWERS AND
DEPTH – NO MATTER WHAT
TIME WE ARE IN."
autiful feeling. It is particularly important to me to create a cosy
living room atmosphere and spread a feeling of love. I'm also delighted
that my band will be back to provide a wonderful musical
accompaniment to the evening.
Your post on Instagram says: "Freedom comes when
we let go". What did you mean by this? For me, freedom
means deciding for myself how I approach the world and myself,
what values I carry within me and to the outside world and what I
want to leave behind.
Her voice is like a warm embrace. Her lyrics make many people
feel understood. In April, Clara Louise is goes on a "Music and
Poetry Tour 2024".
SUSTAINABILITY
What is
important to
you?
MUSHROOM
POWER
Do you live consciously and is sustainability
important to you? With this shoe, you can
express your values and make a personal
statement. The stylish retro sneaker combines
modern design with an innovative ingredient:
mushrooms. Discover the material with
the power to change the future.
Sustainability is a journey. That's why we at Tamaris are constantly on
the lookout for alternative materials that can help protect our
environment. The good news is that nature itself provides us with
what we need. Just like mushrooms, on which the innovative
HyphaLite TC upper material used in the spring/summer models
of our GreenStep collection is based. The completely plastic-free,
100% bio-based and biodegradable natural material is made from
mushrooms in combination with natural rubber and cellulose fi bres.
In shoe manufacturing, it helps to replace petrochemical plastics and
thus reduce global plastic pollution. The sneakers not only impress
with three fresh colours and a timeless retro design, they are also
another important step towards a more sustainable future.
I am looking for sustainable
alternatives to plastic
and animal-free leather.
Step by step, we are testing the use of newly
developed bio-based materials in order to
protect our nature in the best possible way.
Our mushroom material is now in its third
season. Mushrooms together with natural
rubber form the basis for an innovative, 100%
bio-based upper material. We also use
BLOOM, an algae-based biomass in our
outsoles (more on this on p. 37).
biobased
I live as a vegan and
consciously look for shoes
that are free from animal
ingredients.
We offer you a huge selection of vegan
styles in our collection, which spans all shoe
categories. Every vegan model undergoes an
external certifi cation process at the PFI (Testing
and Research Institute in Pirmasens).
SUSTAINABILITY
MADE OF MUSHROOMS
Did you know?
Produced in Europe
The sustainable GreenStep collection is manufactured
in an eco-label-certifi ed factory in Portugal. The
"PFI Eco Label" confi rms that the products have been
manufactured in an environmentally friendly way and
fulfi l certain standards in terms of sustainability and
social responsibility.
A special material needs
special care
If you use a chemical cleaner on your shoe, sustainability
is a thing of the past. Instead, use a damp cloth
with mild organic soap to wipe off the dirt in a
circular motion. Dab the damp areas dry immediately
afterwards.
Natural materials change
Like nature, the shoe can also change somewhat over
time. The material with its raw and pithy character can
form creases when worn. But that is completely normal
and is part of its sustainable history.
That's what's inside
MUSHROOMS
WATER-BASED
ADHESIVE
ASKED ABOUT …
For many, they are a tasty meal, for shoe
production a new driver for the future.
Our Head of Sustainability Andreas explains
the power of the mushroom material.
Andreas, how did you come up with the
idea of making shoes from mushrooms?
The fashion industry, with its current consumption of
resources, is responsible for considerable environmental
pollution. We have the greatest leverage in
the fl ow of materials. The search for new, regenerative
materials with a better carbon footprint put us on
the trail of mushrooms. However, they are not cultivated
in the laboratory; they are side mushrooms and
button mushrooms that are no longer suitable for
consumption.
Cactus, pineapple, apple – there are many
leather alternatives. Why does Tamaris use
mushrooms? Mushroom is a ground-breaking innovation
in bio-based fashion materials that enables
us to produce parts of the shoe upper from sustainable
ingredients provided by nature. With this material,
Tamaris is taking a completely different approach
to previous alternatives to leather, which are essentially
plastic-based. Mushroom technology does not
use PU or synthetic materials and is 100% biodegradable.
That points the way forward.
Does the material resemble the look of
leather? Visually, the mushroom models are in no
way inferior to styles made from real leather. But
like leather, Hyphalite also has its own character.
The special surface structure of the material lends
the shoe a rugged, casual character that looks
particularly good with boots and sneakers.
As Head of Sustainability,
Andreas Burmeister is constantly
on the lookout for innovative and
sustainable materials for a
responsible footwear footprint.
How difficult is it to make a sustainable
shoe? The production of shoes is very complex.
There is a long list of hundreds of elements that need
to be implemented carefully. In comparison, a T-shirt
consists of only a few fabrics. With mushroom, we are
consciously taking a new step that is just the beginning.
Even our most experienced shoe technician had to
learn new ways. But the prospect of a better future is
worth every effort.
Who is the collection aimed at? Anyone
who prefers an innovative, environmentally friendly
material that is not only vegan, but also renewable,
100% bio-based and biodegradable will fi nd an
absolute speciality here. Make a personal statement
with this shoe.
Award-winning
innovation: In 2022,
Tamaris received
the "German
Award for Sustainability
Projects" for a
mushroom-based
mule.
