Meet the family behind the Aardman ad A perfect west country pairing is behind the pint-sized advert appearing on TV and cinema screens this summer. ADVERTISING FEATURE Thatchers Cider and their thirst for perfection have joined forces with Aardman’s joyful storytelling technique to whisk viewers through the barn doors of Myrtle Farm and into the world of the family cider makers. Viewers are treated to a glimpse of what real life is like at the family farm; from the 12:30 tasting, to the Thatchers hot air balloon and Myrtle the dog– not animated myths, but true reflections on the magic moments that makes Thatchers Cider so special. The Thatcher family has been making cider at Myrtle Farm in Somerset for 120 years. As a British, family run business, they produce much-loved ciders such as the smooth Thatchers Gold, naturally cloudy Thatchers Haze, zingy Thatchers Blood Orange and the award-winning alcohol-free cider, Thatchers Zero. Martin Thatcher, fourth generation cider maker, whose miniature figure stars in the advert, says “Our passion for creating the most perfect cider is reflected in the genius of Aardman, whose animators have recreated life at Myrtle Farm in the most minute and exacting detail; from the hot air balloon basket handwoven out of real straw, to fabric from our workwear being used to create the costumes.” With total dedication to their craft, it took a team of 40 creatives at Aardman, with animators alone needing over 480 hours to shoot the 40 second commercial. Enjoying life on the farm is not just limited to the TV animation, with the doors open to guests year-round. A warm welcome awaits those visiting the award-winning pub and restaurant, The Railway Inn, which received two AA Rosettes this March. Featuring a traditional country pub lounge and large family-friendly outdoor space, it is a great spot for foodies, dog walkers and cider lovers alike. Open Wednesday to Sunday and Bank Holidays.
