Police chief Corey Utech<br />

said the police department<br />

had an increase in ca ls for<br />

service in 20 2, rising from<br />

2,216 to 2,599 in Hawarden.<br />

Of those ca ls, 61 turned<br />

into cases.<br />

“A case is when there’s<br />

going to be some kind of<br />

charge or investigation<br />

that wa rants us to go further<br />

than something we<br />

can just handle in-house.”<br />

He counted six a saults,<br />

three larcenies and one<br />

motor vehicle theft. The<br />

School District administration on Friday with<br />

a petition to get a $14.9 mi lion bond i sue on<br />

Asks Sioux County board for<br />

money to help with upgrades<br />

Hawarden city o ficials have asked for<br />

$50,000 of the Sioux County Board of<br />

Supervisors when it begins approving<br />

budget requests for the 2023-24 fiscal year.<br />

The money would go toward Hawarden’s<br />

planned update of its electrical<br />

substation and transformers. By having<br />

county funds, it is hoped it wi l make<br />

Hawarden more competitive in securing<br />

other funding opportunities from state<br />

and federal sources.<br />
