(Nanny) born February 28,
1934, was born in Burke
County to the late Garfield
and Lucille Berry. She went to be
with the lord on April 8, 2024 at UNC
Health Care Blue Ridge following a brief
illness. She attended Olive Hill High here
in Morganton. She retired from Broughton Hospital; she was
an avid member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church for 90
years. She sang with the Spiritual Choir and others. She played
the piano at home and the guitar. She was known best by the
family for her cathead biscuits and salad dressing.
She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin Harbison
of 44 years, daughter Mrs. Vealetta Berry Chambers Brown,
granddaughter Chelsea Chambers, her brother Stoney Berry Sr.,
Kenneth Berry Sr., and her sister Florene Berry Hall.
She is survived by her children – Dennis Lee Berry (Jackie) of
Valdese, NC, Kathy Miller (Mark) of Morganton, NC, Ricky Berry
(Harriet) of Brandywine, MD, Texie Largent (Ricky) of Valdese,
NC, Jermaine Berry (Amy) of Morganton, NC, her bother Earl
Stanley Berry (Stephanie) of Valdese, NC, her sister Margie
Ervin of Woodbridge, VA, her sister In-law Geneva Williams of
Rhode Island. Grandchildren Roy Chambers III, Bill Wilkins II,
Sherman Chambers, Destiny Fuller, Dennis Lee Berry, Ricardo
Berry, Nathan Miller, and a host of great-grandchildren,
nieces, and nephews.
