Selecting an independent school can be a
daunting task given the many options
available, ranging from preparatory to
secondary and 'all through' schools.
At Loyola, we strongly advocate the benefits
of remaining in a preparatory school for the
duration of their primary education, as it
provides an excellent foundation for a
successful future.
To gain insight into education at Loyola , we
had the pleasure of asking James, a Year 6
pupil who has attended Loyola from the age
of three, just like his brother.
Q Firstly, congratulations on your multiple 11+ offers and scholarships from several
top independent schools and securing a place at a leading Grammar School. How
were you prepared by the school for the various styles of 11+ entry exams?
A That is a difficult question; as the school prepares you through your whole time
here. But once you have decided which schools you are applying for, you are set
appropriate past papers for those schools, covering Maths, English, Verbal and Non-
Verbal reasoning. You are also taught various styles of writing, such as a persuasive
argument and creative writing so you are fully prepared for the exams. We also used
Atom Learning for those schools that used computer-based exams for their entrance
process. Additionally, we did interview practice, puzzle/problem solving and team
skills to help with our preparation.
