State Representative Soter Announces Over $29,000 in
Funding for Uxbridge High School’s Internship Program
State Representative Michael
Soter (R-Bellingham) is

Uxbridge High School has been
selected to receive additional state
funding from the Massachusetts
Department of Elementary and
Secondary Education (DESE) to
establish paid internships for high
school seniors interested in becoming
teachers and educators.

total of $1,504,866 in grant funding
to be distributed to schools in 34
municipalities across the state.
Uxbridge High School is receiving
$29,250 to be used to pay high
school seniors for what would
otherwise be unpaid internships
in the field of education. Seniors
at Uxbridge High School are
already given the opportunity to

The DESE offers this program
to ensure the future success of elementary
and secondary education
schools in Massachusetts. With
this program, students will gain
valuable experience in a careerreadiness
programs that offers a
hands-on opportunity to work with
elementary students in a classroom
setting, learn instructional
methods from mentor instructors,
and engage in educator preparation
curriculum.

Accepting Applications
The Northbridge
&
Uxbridge
Youth Police
Academy is
officially open
accepting applications!
Eligible applicants
must
be from the
5th, 6th, 7th or
8th grade as of
September 2024.
Applications
can be found at
the Northbridge
and Uxbridge Police Departments
and will soon be available online.
There will be two academies. The
first will be July 15-19 held at the
Uxbridge High School. The second
academy will be held August 5-9 at
Northbridge High School. Students
from either town are eligible for
either academy.
Students will learn about the
various aspects of law enforcements
including: criminal investigations,
crime scene processing,
CPR overview, K-9 activities,
criminal law and procedure, accident
reconstruction, report writing
and more.
A typical academy day consists
of physical training, morning
snack, morning classroom sessopm.
lunch, afternoon classroom
session, clean-up, and dismissal.
The academy is limited to 25
students. In an effort to open the
academy to new students, if yhou

Baldassarre in building the existing
internship program has been
instrumental for preparing young
adults in our district for successful
careers beyond high school. With
this funding, students who are
interested in becoming teachers
will be financially supported as
they gain necessary experience in

the importance of funding internship
programs for high school
students and ensuring easy access
to essential careers paths such as
elementary and secondary school
teachers.
