Bright Sky Umbrella Ltd was founded in 2015 by Adam Connell,
Managing Director.
After spending 5 years within the umbrella industry, Adam realised
certain service and operational feedback from recruitment agencies
and contractors was not being taken on board. Changes which would
help strengthen these relationships were not actioned. Therefore he
set up Bright Sky Umbrella to give him the freedom to implement
these changes, ensuring that all aspects were as simple and stress
free as possible for all involved. The initial services offered were
umbrella and CIS.
Bright Sky Umbrella rebranding to Bright Sky Contracting (“Bright
Sky”), offering a range of services for the ever changing contractor
market.
Along with the growing team within Bright Sky’s Head Office in
Liverpool, the addition of a non-executive Legal Associate gives
Bright Sky the benefit of a specialist, with Legal, Compliance and HR
allowing them to stay at the forefront of legislation changes.
This gives our clients piece of mind that our processes and service is
robust and within the legislated guidelines.

Umbrella
PAYE
Overview
Due to changes in legislation coming into effect as of 6 April 2016 contractors
working through an intermediary will be unable to claim tax relief on travel and
subsistence (“T&S”) if they are caught by supervision, direction and control (“SDC”).
The legislation states all contractors will be caught by SDC as of 6 April 2016
unless they can prove otherwise.
Due to the salary sacrifice section within the legislation, weekly expenses can no
longer be claimed. However if there are expenses outside of T&S (excluding
mileage), tax relief can be claimed at the yearend.
What is it?
An umbrella company employs professional contractors who carry out assignments
for recruitment agencies and / or end-clients.
What are the benefits?
You will receive full employment rights under PAYE. Bright Sky makes your Pay As
You Earn (“PAYE”) and National Insurance (“NI”) deductions for you. Due to legislation
Bright Sky’s PAYE umbrella service is the simplest solution for most contractors, as
you are unable to claim expenses there will be paperwork required and with no
unexpected tax bills you have the flexibility of contracting with the security of being
employed, so you still have access to a state pension, statutory sick pay, holiday pay
and maternity / paternity pay.
How does it work?
You will register as an employee under our umbrella, Bright Sky will receive your
hours each week from your agency, deduct the taxes and forward the net pay direct
to your bank account.
Bright Sky will text you your pay amount so you know what funds you will be
receiving and will ensure you receive a weekly payslip showing all the relevant
deductions.

CIS
Overview
In April 2014 HM Revenue & Customs (“HMRC”) introduced legislation to
prevent individuals categorising themselves as self-employed with the help
of an intermediary when they are, in reality, contracted employees.
Bright Sky ensure that the correct compliance checks are completed to offer
CIS as an option, only to those genuinely self-employed. Find out more

What is CIS?
CIS is the Construction Industry Scheme introduced by HMRC which sets out
the rules for how payments to you, working in the construction industry, must
be handled.
What does this mean for me?
If you are genuinely self-employed Bright Sky can invoice your agency
and/or clients for the work you have done, deduct the correct level of CIS
and pass this onto HMRC and then pass the net pay on to you.
How do I know if I am genuinely
self-employed?
Our compliance team will complete an IR56 review with you in order to
review your working practices. This considers direction, control and
supervision on the assignment.
What are the benefits?
You will also benefit from our insurances which are in place to cover us and
our subcontractors. We also take care of the invoicing and payments to
HMRC so that you can spend your time doing what you do best and giving
you one less thing to think about.
