Expanding Educational<br />
Opportunities for<br />
Disadvantaged Children<br />
Education plays a key role in solving the world’s<br />
most vital challenges. The <strong>International</strong><br />
<strong>Community</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> is committed to<br />
supporting education-focused nonprofit<br />
organizations and academic institutions in Mexico<br />
and Latin America by expanding the number of<br />
U.S. donors that are making social investments in<br />
education-based causes.<br />
Looking toward the future, the <strong>International</strong><br />
<strong>Community</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> is working to increase its<br />
discretionary grant funding to maximize the<br />
impact on the communities that the <strong>Foundation</strong><br />
serves, by empowering children and youth<br />
through expanded educational opportunities,<br />
breaking the cycle of illiteracy and poverty.<br />

Donor Profile<br />
Classical Guitarist Pablo Sainz Villegas<br />
Helps Children Overcome Obstacles<br />
Through Music<br />
In 2009, world-renowned Spanish classical guitarist<br />
Pablo Sainz Villegas, with the support of one of the<br />
<strong>Foundation</strong>’s corporate donors, Sempra Energy,<br />
partnered with the <strong>International</strong> <strong>Community</strong><br />
<strong>Foundation</strong> to host a benefit concert to raise funds<br />
to further the <strong>Foundation</strong>’s mission.<br />
The event’s success transpired into what would<br />
turn out to be an inspiring week-long project<br />
called “Music Without Borders.” The project<br />
consisted of three complimentary concerts in<br />
schools throughout the southern region of San<br />
Diego, engaging more than 700 disadvantaged<br />
Latino students and members of their<br />
communities.<br />
Pablo was so deeply moved by this experience<br />
that it inspired him to create the “Music Without<br />
Borders Legacy” donor-advised fund at the<br />
<strong>International</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong>, to leverage<br />
the inspirational power of classical music to build
