8 CONFERENCES Through its collaboration with the research programmes, the Conference Unit continues to organize topical international events which bring together key figures from business, government, NGOs and academia, raising the profile and the income of the Institute. Reacting quickly to the events of 11 September, the Institute arranged two conferences to address the threatened crisis in energy security and the impact of the events on the Middle East. New conference topics this year included the pharmaceutical industry, the regulation of the insurance industry and, as a continuation of the corporate social responsibility series, legal dimensions of corporate responsibility. As highly successful ventures which forged relationships in new business and policy areas, these conferences look set to be repeated next year.
