Even though we still find ourselves in the ‘dog days’ of
summer, fall is fast approaching and so is an increase of
activities here at the parish and the school.
As I was perusing our completed Stewardship
Assessment forms, I am reminded of the wonderful work
that is being done on our grounds. Here’s a glimpse of
our successes:
Outreach: “Everyone counts or no one counts. We try to help
those less fortunate, serving where we are needed.”
Parent Association: “This ministry supports the entire
student body and provides a social outlet of fellowship.
Our main goals are social interaction and fundraising to
support all students and families. We also support the
parish, and members share and work together as “a
family”. We are dedicated, committed and charitable.”
Seniors: “A friendly group that joins together and helps to
enlighten seniors on new questions/information.”
Girl Scouts: “We are a service organization and try to serve the
greater community through volunteer work and we serve God
through using our abilities such as raking leaves, donating profits
from cookie sales, etc.”
Sunday Pre-School: “Through this ministry children are
taught to love God and serving His people with open
hearts.”
RCIA: “This ministry opens the doors of our church/faith
to anyone, absolutely anyone, because we seek unity with
Christ.”
Legion of Mary: “We do our work as the humblest form
of serving others, as guided through the Legion of Mary
handbook.”
As these assessments continue to come in, I will share
some more snippets with you.
Thanks so much the leaders of these organizations who
have completed these forms and to the volunteers who
have taken the time to interview these leaders. Here is a
reminder to those of you who have volunteered to
conduct an interview that these assessment forms are
now due. The Development Team will consolidate the
answers and present them at the Parish Leaders/Staff
Stewardship Retreat Day on September 8, 2012.
SAVE THE DATE!
Our Ministry Fair is scheduled for October 6 and 7,
2012. The information provided to you about these
organizations may peak your interest in becoming
involved in them!

PILGRIMAGE TO
THE SHRINE
CHURCH OF
ST STANISLAUS BY
THE LEGION OF
MARY
On Thursday, 28 June, the Legion of Mary,
here at Ss Robert & William, sponsored a
pilgrimage to St Stanislaus Church in Slavic
Village. There were 24 of us who enjoyed a
delightful lunch at the Seven Roses Café; we were
given a tour of the amazingly ornate Gothic
church, venerated the Mitre used by the Blessed
Pope John Paul II, and celebrated Mass. It was a
day of prayer, contemplation and joy. Thank you
to all who took part.
The day was such a success that we will
plan more pilgrimage days in the future to other
locations in the area. This trip was sponsored by
the Legion of Mary. This group meets on Monday
evenings at 6:30 pm for prayer and business. Each
week the members are active in visiting the sick in
hospitals, nursing homes and hospice. They visit
the Euclid jail, work with the families preparing
for the baptism of their children and are a
powerful spiritual presence in our parish. Visitors
to the meetings & those interested in joining are
always welcome.
BIBLE STUDY
Have you Begun to Read the Bible Only to Stop in
Disinterest? If you have ever wanted to read the Bible
but stopped in frustration or confusion, then The Bible
Timeline study is for you. This study makes reading the
Bible not only easy but even exciting! Often the problem
with reading the Bible is that is was not written as a linear
story so, when people start to read it, they quickly lose the
narrative thread. Not any more, thanks to The Bible
Timeline. Stay tuned, details coming soon!

and instrumentalists for the upcoming choir
season.

Interested in Learning about the
Catholic Faith?
If you, or someone you know, have questions about the
Catholic Faith and Tradition, we will host an Inquiry Session
on Monday, August 20, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart
Room located in the Parish Office Building. The purpose of
the meeting will be to discuss the R.C.I.A. program, a special
catechetical class offered to those seeking the sacraments of
Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. This course is also for
those who simply wish to learn about Catholicism. Fully
initiated and practicing Catholics who are looking for a ‘faithrefresher’
are most welcome. Please come on Monday the 20 th
of August to find out if R.C.I.A. would be something that
would answer your questions or support your spiritual growth
and enhance your knowledge our God, our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ.

A Festival Request
Our Festival is less than a month away and the
committee has been working feverishly on making
this year’s event a huge success.
We are still accepting sponsorships and Chinese
Raffle items. Your favorite hair dresser, favorite
restaurant and shops may be able to donate an
item to you...if only you ask!
Remember, Ss. Robert & William school parents
are able to receive one service hour for each
donation that they are able to obtain that is
valued over $25.00. All items should be
dropped off at the Parish Office.
This is an easy way to accumulate your volunteer
hours while contributing to the success of our
Festival!

BETTERS BLOG
Dear Parishioners,
Tomorrow is the feast of the Transfiguration. It is a beautiful feast in which we remember Jesus taking Peter, James
and John on the mountain and then was transfigured before them. It was at this moment they realized the Divinity of
Christ. They realized that their destiny was not to end on earth; but instead they were destined to share eternal life
with Christ. As we celebrate this feast, we call to mind that we too are destined for eternal life with Christ. This is a
wonderful gift that Christ gives us and how blessed we are. How do we respond to this gift?
As you may or may not know, we have temporarily closed the Mustard Seed Religious Gift Shop. I would like to
give you a little background. My hope for this shop is for us to focus on providing religious goods, books, gifts,
music, etc. for our parishioners and the local community. Under the leadership of Mary Clare Zahler, a faithful group of volunteers
have been running the store. However, after an internal audit of parish fundraising; I became concerned recently when I found that
in the first year we did almost $12,000 in sales and last year we did just under half of this. While the store is not meant to be a
major money maker, it does cause me to question if this is the best use of the space and are we truly serving the mission of the
parish. In addition, I have begun to receive several comments that people could not find a nice religious card, music or book there
and many people left empty handed. Therefore, I asked Ellen Ivory to meet with the volunteers, various parishioners and members
of the community to get their input. After receiving their input, we have decided the following:
~We will re-open in September. We will focus exclusively on religious items of cards, books, statues, metals, gifts, cards,
music and video’s. These will be reasonably priced and very nice items.
~We will devote one room to SRW Spirit Ware and items that show off parish and school spirit.
~We will allow one room to be done on consignment. If parishioners have something new items they would like to sell, we
will allow them to sell it there if it is supportive of the mission of the parish.
~We will have items of support of A.A. ,other self-help ministries and Fair Trade Items (an aspect of Catholic Social
Teaching).
~We will seek to have items that support adult faith formation. In addition, we will have speakers and other sorts of events
held there.
~We will expand the hours and be open at more convenient times.
~We will continue to have our wonderful group of volunteers run the ministry.
~We will seek to do a much better job of marketing the treasure that it will become.
Like the mustard seed, it will start very small and hopefully blossom into something great. I am most appreciative of all of the hard
work that has gone into the Mustard Seed up until this point and I look forward to working with the volunteers to continue to
continue its growth. Ellen will be conducting a survey at some point in August of all parishioners about the Mustard Seed. Watch
the bulletin for more details and get ready for its Grand Reopening!
I would like to thank three wonderful ladies, Jane Meszoros, Mary Ann Weybrecht, and Charlotte Triplett. A parishioner fell in the
bathroom and cut her head. These three wonderful ladies ministered to her and made sure the paramedics took good care of her.
This is just one example of what I see every day, every where I look. Parishioners are always reaching out and helping one another.
We are so blessed with such a great parish.

BAKE SALE at the PARISH FESTIVAL
This year, the SRW Seniors will be staffing a Bake sale at our Parish Festival
on all three days. We need you to help and join them in bringing bakery for
them to sell. We are looking for pieces that can be eaten easily without forks
and plates, such as cookies, cupcakes, brownies and small pastries.
Many people enjoy the varieties of food offered at the Festival and this bake
sale will offer desserts and the opportunity to take some treats home for later.
All baked goods can be dropped off at the stage in the Gym on either Thursday,
23 Aug. from 4-6 pm or Friday 24 Aug. from 8:30 am until Noon. Help sweeten
our Festival!

See What Cooking at the Festival Aug. 24th—26th
Our cooks are getting the grill ready for lots of hot dogs, chili dogs,
hamburgers, cheeseburgers, brats and chicken sandwiches for our
hungry festival guests. Be sure to stop by the Parish Food Tent and
enjoy our All-American food and fresh squeezed lemonade. Will also
offer nachos, sweet potato fries and maybe some other goodies to
satisfy your taste buds.
Take a trip back in time with the Euclid Beach Rocket Car
Remember seeing the rocket ship
swinging through the air at Euclid Beach
Amusement Park, brushing against the
tree tops? Re live those glory days again
at the festival. Come and ride on the
Euclid Beach Rocket Car on Friday and
Saturday night from 6:30pm to 10:30pm
and Sunday from 4pm to 7pm.
The Ponies are coming!
Sunday August 26th is Kids day at the festival and
part of the celebration will include pony rides. Four
ponies will make the grassy area in front of the church
their home for the day. The ponies will be giving rides
from 1pm to 5pm. Kids will have a chance to ride the
ponies and make memories of their own. Don’t forget
the camera mom and dad!
