The mission of mississauga Board of Trade (mBoT) is to fulfill a leadership role as the voice of business for mississauga’s business community. mBoT aims to create an environment for mississauga business to compete and prosper, in recognition of the simple truth that a thriving business sector contributes to the quality of life for all citizens in our community. 2 Mississauga Board of Trade extra! extra! our neW PreSiDenT & ceo AnD oTHer AnnouncemenTS on behalf of the Board of directors, I am pleased to announce that, following an extensive search, sheldon leiba, a proven successful chamber manager, has been hired for the role of President & Ceo of the city’s leading business association. sheldon comes with strong credentials as Ceo of Brampton Board of Trade, where he has served for over seven years, developing the organization into one of the largest and most active boards of trade in ontario. sheldon’s academic background includes a masters degree in Public Administration from Queen’s university school of Policy studies along with a specialized honours degree in Public Policy & Administration and Certificate in urban studies from York university. Prior to joining the Brampton Board of Trade, he served four years with the City of Brampton as executive Assistant to the mayor. sheldon is a very successful chamber manager with a unique multifaceted skill set of strong organizational leadership, business and financial management, business services development, public policy and advocacy expertise, membership and stakeholder relations, marketing and communications, as well as a strong reputation for building a high performance culture with staff and volunteers. having known sheldon for nearly 10 years now, I am confident that, with his tremendous related experience, qualifications and leadership, sheldon will lead our organization to new heights. sheldon is equally proud and eager about joining mississauga Board of Trade and you will hear from him in the next issue. I also want to take this moment to thank the selection committee of Grant Clark, louise mitchell, len Brooks and lauren Bernardi for their leadership in the recruitment process for this vital role. Although I regretfully announce the following two staffing changes, I know that the decisions are positive for both individuals as they progress to the next level of their careers. lowell rubin has resigned as mBoT’s Policy manager to take on the role of strategic Policy Analyst for the region of Peel. during his tenure with us, lowell contributed successfully to many policy and other initiatives and was always a pleasure to work with. The good news is that lowell is not going too far and I know that our organization will be working with him in future. since she was 10 or so, mBoT’s events manager, Katerina Alexakis, has always had a dream to go back to her home country, Greece. Well, she is following that dream and, by the time you
ead this, will already be in her new role as event manager for a well respected and highly popular event planning company in the beautiful city of Athens, Greece. Katerina has been a treat to work with at the Board. she has an infectious demeanour about her, is dedicated and diligent in her work and the results consistently showed in the numerous successful events she organized for us. on behalf the Board of directors and the staff at mBoT, I wish the very best to lowell and Katerina as they begin the next phase of their respective careers. other things to note...
