Endowed Chairs Establish ten endowed chairs, well-supported by resources for research, for distinguished professors who will enliven the intellectual environment and stimulate and produce significant research in the academic units to which they are assigned. Description: Virtually every leading university enjoys the benefits of endowed chairs. Endowed positions relieve the institution of the obligation to commit money from its own budget for the services of the professor. The endowed chair is an essentially cost-free addition to the faculty and strengthens a university’s ability to attract outstanding candidates, especially when the endowment underwrites the professor’s research program. Capitalizing wisely on the donor’s largesse, a university can engage professors who will enliven the intellectual environment of the institution and stimulate the research productivity of the faculty. Zayed University will gain immense power from the addition of endowed chairs. Scholars who might never have considered working in the U.A.E. will respond to the prospect of certain research funding. The University will be free to exercise its most imaginative recruiting strategies in the knowledge that funding for the positions is not dependent on unpredictable budgets. The very prestige of occupying an endowed chair will give the University an extra edge in recruiting. Distinguished professors occupying endowed chairs will significantly fortify the University and will aid in projecting its intellectual worth globally. Every extraordinary team has its stars. Professors holding endowed chairs will be the stars of Zayed University’s remarkable faculty. They will signal the University’s fulfillment of its destiny to lead. Office of Development Establish an Office of Development to prepare and execute a campaign for a Zayed University Endowment. Description: In establishing an Office of Development, Zayed University is providing a structure for the preparation and execution of a campaign to establish and grow an endowment for the University. Proceeding on the professional advice of the Phoenix Philanthropy Group, the Office of Development, before launching a public campaign, will identify priorities, develop cases, identify initial prospects, complete plans, policies, procedures, and materials, identify and recruit volunteer leaders, and contact lead donors. In both the quiet and the public phases of the campaign, the Office of Development will manage fund-raising in accord with international best practices and the protocols of the United Arab Emirates.
