beaches. They expressed <strong>the</strong>ir willingness to accept<br />
ano<strong>the</strong>r assignment when two new couples were assigned<br />
to Haiti, so down <strong>the</strong>y went to Jacmel in April.<br />
They now write: "We placed books with a man several<br />
<strong>year</strong>s back during a two-week visit. When we got<br />
here to set up <strong>the</strong> missionary home we met him one<br />
day and told him we were here to stay this time.<br />
Asked if he would like to study <strong>the</strong> Bible with 'Let<br />
God Be True', he asked, 'Right now?' and we replied,<br />
'Yes.' In fifteen minutes <strong>the</strong> study started at his home<br />
and he has not missed a session since. For a public<br />
talk with thirteen attending, he brought half <strong>the</strong> number<br />
present. He went to Port-au-Prince <strong>for</strong> Bro<strong>the</strong>r<br />
Franz' talk and was much enthused by <strong>the</strong> new film_<br />
He uses a brief sermon in <strong>the</strong> <strong>service</strong> now. We have<br />
twenty studies."<br />
Bro<strong>the</strong>r Franz drew our largest Port-au-Prince attendance<br />
this <strong>year</strong> at a special meeting arranged <strong>for</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> pUblic. A show was canceled, and <strong>the</strong> government<br />
gave us <strong>the</strong> open-air Theatre de Verdure free <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
event. By permission from you, Bro<strong>the</strong>r Knorr, we had<br />
a triple treat. First, <strong>the</strong> public talk by Bro<strong>the</strong>r Franz,<br />
<strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> petition to Bulganin, which was adopted by<br />
<strong>the</strong> 858 present, and finally <strong>the</strong> showing <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Society's<br />
new film, <strong>for</strong> which <strong>the</strong> attendance grew to 1,019. Rain<br />
<strong>for</strong>ced a late start, but <strong>the</strong> whole program went <strong>of</strong>f<br />
fine. We twenty missionaries, toge<strong>the</strong>r <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> first time,<br />
felt so happy to have Bro<strong>the</strong>r Franz lead us in prayer<br />
in <strong>the</strong> home and <strong>the</strong>n speak to our publishers and<br />
interested ones.<br />
HAWAU<br />
In <strong>the</strong> beautiful islands <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pacific called<br />
Hawaii <strong>Jehovah</strong>'s witnesses are preaching <strong>the</strong><br />
good news. While <strong>the</strong>re has not been a great increase<br />
in <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> publishers this <strong>year</strong>, still<br />
those that have come into <strong>the</strong> truth have been<br />
brought on to maturity and <strong>the</strong>re have been fine<br />
increases in <strong>the</strong> distribution <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Watchtower<br />
and Awake! magazines. The congregation publishers<br />
averaged 129 magazines placed in a <strong>year</strong>, or<br />
approximately eleven each month. The pioneers<br />
and special pioneers have more than met <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
quotas. They feel that a good increase is inevitable<br />
during this <strong>service</strong> <strong>year</strong> <strong>of</strong> 1957 because <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>
