getting some smaller ones.
Action: Mrs Marsden
3. Easter Egg Raffle
The school made £42 from the raffle. 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd prizes were made up using the
£10 gift card donated by Tesco. The school also put together a Fair Trade 4 th prize
too. It was decided that this was worth doing again next Easter.
4. Film Night
This was a great success. £89.81 profit was made. However, left-over sweets from
the evening were sold at the Search for a Star Final, so the profit was actually slightly
more than this. We decided we would run another film night in the Autumn term (to
be discussed at the next meeting). Mr Ayling suggested looking into hiring a DVD
from a DVD shop (e.g. Blockbuster) as it is cheaper than having the film couriered
over to us by the company.
5. Bingo Night – Friday 27 th April
Mrs Allen will email the letter about the event to parents again tomorrow. Sylvia
Biggerstaff will ask the Fish & Chip shop if they can deliver the food slightly later than
planned (e.g. 6.15-6.30pm). As an additional prize, a few lucky tickets will be stuck
under some random chairs (as per the Film Night) – prizes will be a 99p bag of
chocolate (e.g. Twirls, chocolate buttons, etc.).
The following people volunteered to help during the event:
Carol Cheeseman and Karen Williams (refreshments)
Mrs Allen, Mrs Kiernan, Jane Kinch (door)
Sharon Bush (giving out fish & chips and prize-giving)
Sylvia Biggerstaff and Ruth Cuthbert (selling raffle tickets)
Mr Ayling will ask Mrs Melia and Mrs Baynam to be “Quiz markers”.
2 Bingo Checkers to be found email to rest of the committee for volunteers
Mr Ayling will put together a quiz. Liz Howard will send in the two boxes of
chocolates donated by Sainsburys to be used as the prizes.
Crisps and drinks need to be purchased. Jane Kinch will get some from Bookers.
Sylvia Riddington volunteered to buy “dabbers” and “highlighters” from Wilkinsons.
Luke Bush will sell them on the night.
Carol Brook will look in the shed this week to see if there is anything else that can be
used as prizes.
6. New Parents’ Evening – Tues 26 th June
Action: Mrs Allen, Sylvia Biggerstaff, Mr Ayling,
Jane Kinch, Sylvia Riddington, Carol Brook
Ruth Cuthbert has been sorting and washing incoming old uniform. Mrs Allen will put
a note again on the next newsletter reminding parents that they can donate any
unwanted school uniform to the school.
Liz Howard, Sylvia R, Carol B, Sharon B and Jane volunteered to help sell old
uniform and provide refreshments at this event.
7. Disco – Thurs 12 th July
Sylvia R will buy hot dogs for this event as they’re currently half-price. To be
discussed further at the next meeting.
Action: Sylvia R
8. Summer Fair – Friday 6 th July
Jane has booked an inflatable “assault course” (suitable for up to 17 year olds) with a
free bouncy castle from Castlemania (£100). Mike Downton needs to look into
whether our insurance covers us for any accidents. It was decided to locate it on the
grass rather than tarmac. If it rains on the day, we will get a full refund, as long as we
phone to cancel first thing that morning.
The children will design the front cover for the programme. There will be a prize draw
for a lucky programme number.
Sylvia R will sort out getting 5000 raffle tickets printed by G.C.Print. Prizes – 1 st
(£50), 2 nd (£25), 3 rd (£20).
There are still prizes remaining for the sports tombola, but we need to get some more
footballs to top it up (Bunces).
We will ask Cherry Tree Nursery to provide plants for us to sell on a sale-or-return
basis (as for previous years).
Liz Howard will write to various companies asking for donations to be used as prizes
for the Chinese raffle. Jane Kinch will email her the list she has of suggested places
to write to.
Mrs Allen will put something on the newsletter to ask if there are any parents who
work for businesses that might be willing to donate things to be used in a raffle.
FFS have offered to bring their candy floss and popcorn making machines again. Liz
Howard will confirm that we would like this (proceeds to be split 50/50 between the 2
schools).
Mr Ayling suggested a ceramic plate decorating activity. We thought this would be a
good activity to do at the next Christmas Fair (as we already have a lot of stalls
planned for the Summer Fair).
Liz Howard will ask Ferndown Air Cadets if they might be willing to attend to give
some sort of demonstration/display. She will also ask Liz Norman if she got any
further with getting a banner made advertising the Summer Fair.
9. Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
Action: Mike Downton, Sylvia R, Liz Howard, Jane K, Mrs Allen
Mrs Allen said the school plan to make a “Jubilee Garden” in the quadrangle where
the FMSA shed is. They plan to also plant 4 trees (1 per year group), but are not
sure when is the best time to plant trees. Sylvia R will ask Cherry Trees Nursery for
advice on this.
