DeMetrius lincoln tech Pep reporter Yu Darvish a member of Nippon Ham FIGHTERS in his opening game of his season threw 124 pitches, with 4 hits and 10 strikeouts ! His last pitch of the game broke his oppents bat in half and the ball sailed back to him as he turned and tossed it to first base for the final out. Even though it was one game he has been known to dominate the mound his entire life. With his 6 foot 5 height and some say he even has the face of a model, but enough of the small talk lets talk baseball. Japan has known to produce superstars to america. Names like Ichiro, Hideki Matsui and the newest instalation Daisuke Matsuzaka or “Dice K”. Darvish is just looking to become a star like the rest of them but he also wants the money to charging between 50-75 million$ to even speak with him ! So the real question is who can afford that ? Well its no doubt the yankees can and boy do they need it struggling to even keeping there record at the 500% mark, how ever they did just pay A-Rod that 275 million dollar contract agreement lasting for 10 years and a bonus if he surpasses bonds home run record. With Becket, Dice K, Schilling and Papelbon closing them out. An addition with Darvish would make the defending champs just that much better. On, April 15 th , three days after finishing second at The Masters, Woods had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. It had been bothering him for months, but he waited until after The Masters to have his surgery. “I made the decision to deal with the pain and schedule the surgery after the Masters,” Woods said on his Web site. “The upside is that I have been through this process before, and know how to handle it.” ABOVE: Tiger Woods himself in action Being only 32, this was Woods’s third surgery on the same knee. The first was in 1994 to remove a benign tumor, and the second in 2002 was to remove a benign cyst. Recently Woods had a checkup on his knee, and he told Golf Digest.com: “It went great. Everything is right on schedule.” If he takes longer than 4-6 weeks to recover he may miss the chance to participate in the U.S. Open. “The doctors said I should be able to play in four to six weeks after the surgery, but there are no guarantees about anything right now,” Woods said on Golf Digest.com. “I’m just going to work hard and do what they tell me to do.” the Oregon players were 5th and 7th round draft picks. The Dallas Cowboys in my opinion had a bad draft the first and second day the Cowboys trade a lot of there draft picks and passed up on Mario Manningham a WR (wide receiver) from Michigan which the New York Giants picked up in the Third round which my opinion of that decision was stupid on the Cowboys part they would have had a backup receiver and he probably would of started with Terrell Owens but that was there decision.

We have seen Chris Paul dominate and throw up wild circus shots, we have seen Lebron James jump out the gym, not to mention the Atlanta Hawks almost take out the Celtics in the first round and Tim Duncan hit his first 3 pointer of the year in a clutch time which may have changed the outcome of the playoffs. It all started with the Lakers were best in the west and Celts best in the east. Kobe Mvp which makes the Lakers most feared. 4 teams are left Pistons Vs. Celtics and Lakers vs. Spurs. Each team only 8 wins away from crowning themselves as the champs. A preview of the match ups at close. In the east we have the Pistons and the Celtics. Both are the top 2 seeds in the east with boston being the 1 seed but lost 2 games to the Pistons in the regular season. This year the Celts had the leagues best defense whiched helped them win 67 games this season. This was the biggest ever increase in win/loss ratio in one season. Thanks to help of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen and already having hometown hero Paul Peirce makes them a dominant force. But the Pistons have won before with the team they have and have the experience and maturity to knock out the NBA’s best. As far as the west coast the champs are letting you know that they are here and have not lost a step, the San Antonio Spurs will defend there title against the MVP Kobe Bryant and his La Lakers. The Lakers have only had one game this playoffs were they failed to pass the century mark which means they can score. Also they are younger than San Antonio but have the experience to win it all. This is going to be a tough series and don’t be surprised to see it go 7 because the fight in these teams make that very possible. Out the west we have the Detriot Red Wings who had the best record in the league, and beat out the Dallas Stars in 6 games. Out of the east we have the young sensation, Sidney Crosby also known as Sid The Kid who has led his team to there first NHL championship in a long time now. Crosby himself has took himself to the cup in just three years which was less time then wayne gretzky, which happens to be another record broken. Anywho the battle begins and one team will win. . Gm. 1 Saturday 8pm ET” ABOVE: “The doctors trying to calm the horse” Death At The Derby BY BrenT ellingson Tech pep reporter Despite the grandeur of the Kentucky Derby, large hats, mint juleps and the natural excitement of small men riding large, fast horses, the 2008 Derby was marred with tragedy. Eight Belles, the first filly (female horse), in nine years to compete in the race, and only the thirty ninth filly ever to do so, finished in second place, five lengths behind the victor Big Brown. What started as a major accomplishment, soon turned bitter as the horse collapsed while trotting along the track after the race, fracturing both front ankles. Dr. Larry Bramlage, the on-call veterinarian, stated that the injuries sustained by the horse were too severe to even attempt to move her off the track. Due to the immense pain the horse was in, as well as the hopelessness of its future, Eight Belles had to be euthanized (killed) on the track in front of the 157,770 in attendance. The situation is most definitely sad, however the horse could not have picked a better place in the world to shatter both front ankles and be killed before her time �
