The study of Drama is designed to engage students in an active exploration of the world of<br />
Theatre Arts as well as promote student achievement through building confidence and self<br />
esteem.<br />
<strong>Middle</strong> <strong>School</strong> Drama Goals<br />
Students in Drama will:<br />
- Develop interpersonal skills and awareness<br />
- Develop aesthetic sensitivity and understanding<br />
- Relate Drama to its larger context<br />
- Create theatre through artistic collaboration<br />
Expectations of Students<br />
Students are expected to:<br />
- Respect their peers, teacher(s), class materials, and themselves<br />
- Be present both physically and mentally during each class period<br />
- Enter the classroom every day with a positive attitude<br />
- Actively participate in classroom discussions and activities<br />
- Complete written assignments when they are due<br />
- Contribute 100% to class lessons and dialogues<br />
- Support every member of the class community through encouragement and assistance<br />
when necessary<br />
- Think creatively<br />
- Try their best at all times<br />
Class Rules<br />
Students will:<br />
- Treat every member of the class with respect<br />
- Be prepared when in class – this includes all assigned supplies and additional class<br />
resources<br />
- Remain seated in their assigned seats unless otherwise instructed<br />
- Raise their hands when they wish to contribute to class discussions<br />
- Complete assignments when they are due<br />
- Follow all protocol established by MS 67<br />

Notebooks<br />
Students will be expected to keep a notebook describing and reflecting upon their experiences<br />
in class and responding to daily assignments. Additionally, students will record key vocabulary<br />
terms and definitions, as well as notes delivered during class sessions. Though time will be<br />
given in class for written work, students will be asked to bring their work home. Notebooks<br />
will be checked and graded throughout the year.<br />
Portfolios<br />
Each student will have an individual portfolio to track their progress and preserve their<br />
academic achievement. Portfolios will be left in class and checked regularly. Portfolio grades<br />
will be based on a pre-determined rubric.<br />
