Texas.

Since we surmise at least one of Louis and Juliett's children was born in
Germany, they probably were married in Germany, unless a child was born
out of wedlock...unusual for that day.

1. Email Communication with Michael Casey 9/16/2000.I'm sorry I have not gotten back to you,
however, I cannot locate the paperwork on the Haupts which I wrote down some info. on a few years
ago.Let me see what I can remember:Louis Haupt was born 8/3/1838 in Germany. He was a street car
conductor in Berlin where he was married with kids when he met and later married our G. Grandmother
Juliett Artieschaufskey (one of a thousand spellings which I read!!).If I remember correctly, Louis came to
the U.S. at a different date that his wife. I am not sure of the date, however, I do know that Juliett came
to the U.S. with her brother (Henry) and uncle (forgot name). They came in through the port in Indianola,
TX which was later destroyed by a hurricane! Indianola was to the south of Freeport, TX.The only child of
Louis and Juliett Haupt born in Germany was Rudolph who immigrated to the U.S. in 1888 when he was
four (most likely with Juliett).Granny was definitely born in Texas as was the rest of her siblings (except
Rudolph).The interesting question is this:Did Louis leave his first wife because of a fling with Juliett which
got her pregnant? A taboo in those days. Did Louis and Juliett leave Germany to start a new life and to
escape their "sin"? Either way it looks like we have some other half-cousins in Germany.
Interesting!David,I think what we need to do to find out more info. is to check into the surviving Haupts
and Artieschaufskeys and find out what they might know.I know that Rudolph had a son named Ernest
born in 1918. I do not know if he is still alive.I also know that Henry Artieschaufskey had a grand son
named Adolph (go figure!) whose son (cannot remember name) is alive and living in central Texas.
Years ago, I spoke with his wife who said that the Artieschaufskeys actually came from what is now
Poland (makes sense) from a town called Marionwerder. I noticed that there is also a Marionwerder
near Berlin, so the puzzle only gets more complex. (Note: Marienwerder - note spelling - is present day
Kwidzyn, Poland - pronounced Kvee'-Jen)...dlc 1/1/04That's it for now cousin, however, I am greatly
interested in knowing what you find out in your endeavors.

3. 1920 Runnels Co., TX census, Online, I cannot find Louis Haupt on this census. I suspect he must have
died prior to 1920. I have yet to find his "homemade gravestone" at Winters (Fairview).

Cemetery, Winters, Runnels Co., TX. It is just West of the main road that enters Fairview past the 4th
crossroad on the right near a large evergreen shrub/tree. It is cement and embedded with the Spill
funeral home marker that was provided at the time of burial (identical in fashion to headstone of James
