• Hearing loss is the number one disability in the world,
however it is the most preventable disability as well.
• Causes of hearing loss:
• Noise: 33.7%
• Infection or injury: 17.1%
• Age: 28%
• Birth: 4.4%
• One out of every ten Americans (approximately 28
million) have hearing loss. This number is expected to
rapidly climb and nearly double by the year 2030.
• Hearing loss is greater in men.
• Among seniors, hearing loss is the third most prevalent
but treatable disabling condition behind arthritis
and hypertension.
• The hearing aid is the second most widely used
assistive technological device after the walking cane.
