Take Five Newsletter August 2012
Hi to all of Region 5.
Danville Chorus
Goodness, it is coming into another busy season. Selling
ads for our fall show program, learning new songs and
renewing some old ones, studying the scrip, planning
advertising, deciding to do 2 shows. That, along with
attending a music school in our new Region 3 with our old
friends Sandi and David Wright in Michigan City, IN, and
keeping our attendance up. We have had a little bit of a
problem with illness in our chorus and we don't like
loosing any of our members from rehearsals, As you all
know, everyone of us is important to the chorus and are
missed when absent. We also, have 3 coaching sessions
planned between now and contest, and are working hard
on contest songs to be ready for them. We look forward to
our final competition in Region 5 and will try to make you
all proud of us in our new region.
See you in the Spring if not before.
Sincerely,
Ruth Pancoast
Danville Show Chorus of Sweet Adelines
Heart of Illinois
In an attempt to maintain a level of interest after Regional competition, the Heart of Illinois Chorus developed a
program for in-house quarteting and skill development. Named, "I can do My Part," its primary purpose is to build
confidence, apply unified vocal skills, and enhance the performance level of the chorus, as well as experiencing the joy
of quartet singing. While it is a volunteer program, our director strongly encourages everyone to participate.
Each week four singers are randomly chosen. They are provided the session agenda a week or two in advance which
consists of (1) matching unison tone; (2) simple vocal warm-up focusing on a specific skill, for instance, tuning, vowels,
resonance and intervals; (3) a familiar tag; (4) several measures of current repertoire in which to apply the specific
focused skill.
The sessions are held the first half hour of rehearsal and led by a facilitator whose only function is to keep the quartet
on track and provide safe, positive feedback for the singers, remembering that most of them have never been and have
no desire to be a quartet singer. Fun while learning is always the goal, and from the comments of the participants, we
are achieving that.
We are also having our annual show "Good Time
Revue". September 22, 2012 where we are conducting a
local vocal talent show. We are holding auditions in two
audience will vote for the one they liked the best. The
top person will receive $100.00 and the runner-ups will
receive a free membership in chorus for a period to be
determined.
