The U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor was designated as a
National Historic Landmark in 1964. As a Category 3
facility, 1t has been determined that Building No. 439
functioned as part of the Pearl Harbor Naval Base, but
is only of minor importance to the historic character of
the National Historic Landmark.
Building No. 439 is a permanent single story concrete
masonry unit structure located at Jarvis Street and
Kuahua Avenue. The area of the bui 1 di ng is
approximately 7,100 square feet. Building No. 439 is
abutted against Building No. 413.
Building No. 439 was constructed in 1923 as a mine
overhaul shop and storage for torpedoes and mechanism.
The building is currently used as a fuel maintenance
shop by the Naval Supply Center. Plans for demolition
of the existing building are included in Military
Construction (MC0N) Project P-115, which proposes to
demolish the existing building and construct a new
Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA) Facility.
