Maroon ‘57’ due from Oovee After the major update under way for the existing Class 57 from Oovee Entertainment, a new pack is soon to be released on Steam which will be the first opportunity to drive the updated diesel. The pack represents West Coast Railways’ railtour stock (albeit with a mock logo with different name, presumably due to copyright issues) and includes the maroon-coloured ’57’ No. 57001 (including a version with headboard), with branded Maroon Mk1 coaches and a few miscellaneous items thrown in for good measure. Picture: Oovee Facebook The Railworks Magazine Two new soundpacks (including one ‘Pro’) from AP After our comments about the dire soundset of the Class 377 in our London to Brighton review last issue (RWM11), Armstrong Powerhouse have now sorted this issue with a fantastic new soundpack. Since then, the developer has provided a long-awaited “Pro” revamp to the ageing Class 43 soundpack for the recent MTU engine. Both soundpacks are available at the usual price, £4.99. August 2012 Patriot gets BR liveries Following in the same theme as with the A4 and Princess Coronation classes, a separate pack for the Just Trains Patriot has been released containing a new set of specific locomotives in a colourful variety of liveries. Train Simulator 2013: coming 20th September! After being shown a handful of videos about new game technology, but unknowing as to how and when this technology will be distributed, Train Simulator 2013 was announced for a release on 20 th September. The bulk of the listed upgrades focus more on the “game” aspect. One of the first to be announced was the compatibility of the Microsoft Gamepad (the controller an Xbox 360 uses, but can connect with a Windows PC) with the driving aspect of the game. While at first thought it may sound difficult to use the Gamepad with lots of different controls, the videos show it being used with ease, with a simplified, easy-to-use interface this is an option of play for the more relaxed target audience that just want to drive a virtual train. It is not yet known, however, what controls on the Gamepad will be used to operate which controls. Picture: RailSimulator.com Facebook The Railworks Magazine August 2012 7 In the “front end” User Interface which has once again been overhauled, a new feature entitled “Quick Drive” will be present. This is a much easier way to set up a free roam scenario without the chore of loading up the route, going into the world editor, going into the scenario editor, and waiting some more before finally adding your stock, clicking play and waiting for the edited scenario to load so you can begin driving. Not dissimilar to the feature in Microsoft Train Simulator, you are able to add your loco, rolling stock, set time of day, starting point and weather, and you’re more or less off. It has also been said that the computer automatically places AI stock along the route – with the gremlins that constantly frustrate scenario builders when adding AI trains, it will be interesting to see how this will work.
