About <strong>Creating</strong> <strong>Shared</strong> <strong>Value</strong><br />

<strong>Creating</strong> <strong>Shared</strong> <strong>Value</strong> is the basic way <strong>Nestlé</strong> does business <strong>–</strong> by leveraging core activities and<br />

partnerships to simultaneously create value for shareholders as well as for society. We believe that<br />

long-term success is assured if value is jointly created by the company and the community, and where<br />

a strong partnership built on trust can be nurtured.<br />

Our <strong>Creating</strong> <strong>Shared</strong> <strong>Value</strong> strategy is built over and above our compliance with national laws, relevant<br />

international standards and our own Corporate Business Principles, as well as other internal policies<br />

such as the <strong>Nestlé</strong> Policy on Environmental Sustainability, which applies a product life-cycle approach<br />

from farm to consumer in order to minimise the environmental impact of our operations.<br />

Given the nature of our business, we have determined that the areas with the greatest potential for<br />

joint value optimisation with society are nutrition, water and rural development, as these are core to<br />

our activities and vital to the welfare of the people in the countries where we operate.<br />

This document, an extension of <strong>Nestlé</strong>’s <strong>Creating</strong> <strong>Shared</strong> <strong>Value</strong> Report, aims to describe how the<br />

<strong>Creating</strong> <strong>Shared</strong> <strong>Value</strong> approach is integrated across <strong>Nestlé</strong> <strong>Waters</strong> <strong>–</strong> the bottled water division of our<br />

Group <strong>–</strong> which represents nearly 10% of our sales.<br />

Access to water in terms of quantity and quality is critical to life, and is becoming increasingly problematic<br />

every day. Rational use of water is an absolute priority for <strong>Nestlé</strong>, because water is essential to every<br />

stage in our value chain.<br />

At <strong>Nestlé</strong> <strong>Waters</strong>, we have made commitments that we believe will enable us to maximise value for<br />

both shareholders and society. These include:<br />

▪ Providing healthy and safe products to cover consumers’ hydration needs<br />

▪ Managing water resources for long-term sustainability<br />

▪ Continuously optimising our environmental performance with a focus on packaging and recycling<br />

▪ Promoting hydration science and awareness from medical communities to the general public<br />

▪ Developing water care behaviours, with a focus on child education<br />

▪ Contributing to the environmental, social and economic development of the communities where<br />

we operate<br />

We are working in collaboration with a number of stakeholders and support a range of projects and<br />

initiatives to achieve these commitments. We hope that you find this <strong>report</strong> useful and we welcome<br />

your feedback on how <strong>Nestlé</strong> <strong>Waters</strong> could even better embed the <strong>Creating</strong> <strong>Shared</strong> <strong>Value</strong> concept in<br />

its operations to improve its business as well as its contribution to society.<br />
