WHAT IS SKATEABLE ART? 

TURNING SKATE INTO ART 

NYC-based visual artist Christopher Green was inspired to use Spohn Ranch’s pre-cast skate element to create a 

unique concrete sculpture for a new public art installation. By repurposing typical skatepark elements and 

reorienting their traditional alignments, he’s created a stunning visual piece. 

TURNING ART INTO SKATE 

By rotating a half-pipe by 45 degrees and sinking it into the ground, a traditional skatepark element is transformed 

into a new piece of skateable sculpture. 

This transcends the previous incarnations of skateable art (skate elements painted or graffitied) and converts the 

skate elements into a more abstract work which encourages new lines, tricks and modes of skating.

Spohn Ranch combines the capabilities of a full design staff, custom pre-cast concrete factory and 50,000 sq. ft.

FEATURED ART PIECE -- ROLL OVER WHIP 

RIDING THE RIBBON 

Inspired by our recent Gatorade benches, this piece has a steel-edged launch. Great for the top of a 

stair-set, the Roll Over Whip grinds and slides like a bench but seamlessly integrates to the flat, letting 

even beginning skaters use the piece.

EARTHQUAKE GAP 

THE EARTHQUAKE SERIES 

The Earthquake Series is a unique set of obstacles 

recreating the aftermath of an earthquake with 

pieces that appear to have barely withstood the 

tremendous force of 7.9 tremor. 

Although these pieces are meant to convey chaos, 

they are still sturdy, durable and completely 

skateable. 

By placing the pieces at creative angles, Spohn 

Ranch helps skaters find new and challenging ways 

to perform their tricks.

A favorite among transition skaters, 

the clam shell is a premium feature in 

bowls across the world. 

This piece brings the same tight

rakes and ramps, the Horseshoe

FLYING CARPET 

This piece is a creative 

manipulation of the 

common ledges and 

benches found at 

skateparks. Rather 

than replicating a 

standard concrete 

block, this piece is 

made by creating a 

concrete wave with a 

series of peaks and 

valleys. 

Whether placed in a 

skatepark or used to 

decorate a public 

space, this piece stands 

out. It is perfect for 

urban planning and 

landscape architecture 

because its wave 

design adds an artistic 

flair to an otherwise 

ordinary bench. 



BENT PENNY 

BEAUTIFUL AND FUNCTIONAL 

The Bent Penny is a great piece derived from the traditional school yard 

banks that have been popular with skaters since the 1960’s. The 

piece’s simplicity allows for an endless number of easy customizations 

and tweaks. 

In it’s simplest form the Bent Penny provides a perfectly sloped bank 

for skaters to ride up onto, do a trick, and then ride back down. By 

incorporating a ledge into the piece, the ability to grind and transfer 

makes the obstacle even more versatile.

BROKEN PYRAMID 

MIND THE GAP 

A “break” from common pyramid obstacles found 

in skateparks, this piece takes sections of the 

pyramid and spaces them apart from one another 

– creating an interesting dynamic between art and 

skating. 

The Broken Pyramid offers all of the same lines 

and opportunities as a standard pyramid while 

adding gap elements into the piece. Skaters can 

choose a different gap to transfer across each 

time they approach the obstacle. 

The piece immediately catches the eye because it 

strays from our common perception of what a 

pyramid should look like. 



AMULET BENCH 

Similar to our ‘Gatorade’ 

bench, these pieces can be 

placed on flat or stairs to 

create a unique grinding and 

sliding obstacle. Serving 

double-duty as pedestrian 

seating, the Amulet Bench 

gives a custom touch to any 

public space. 



PYRACANO 

A MONUMENT TO 

SHREDDING 

Providing a vertical element often 

missing from skate plazas, these 

extended pyramids serve the 

same function as a traditional 

volcano with more flair and more 

trick possibilities due to the 

faceted sides. 



EQ MANUAL PAD 

THE LEANING PAD OF 

SKATE 

This piece takes our popular 

‘raked manual pad’ one step 

further, tilting all edges to keep 

skaters off balance and constantly 

challenged. 



CAT’S EYE 

A ROLL-OVER WITH AN 

ATTITUDE 

Adding features of a manual pad and hubba 

ledge to a traditional volcano roll over, the 

Cat’s Eye adds flow and street cred to any 

skate spot. 



FLOATING U-BOWL 

BRINGING FLOW TO 

SKATEABLE ART 

While most skateable art pieces are street 

elements designed for single trick runs, the 

Floating U-Bowl lets skaters carve in complex 

lines. Great for adding extra lines without site 

work, decks or berming. 



EARTHQUAKE LAUNCH 

COMPLEX IN FORM AND 

FUNCTION 

The EQ launch can be used as a wedge, 

quarter-pipe, ledge and launch. Protected by 

steel edging and 6000 psi concrete, this 

piece will be well used by skaters and bikers. 

A great utility piece with a distinct look. 



EARTHQUAKE STAIR WALL 

STAIRWAY TO SHREDDING 

One of the most exciting pieces of our initial 

collection, the EQ Stair Wall gives skaters 

stairs to jump over and a ledge to grind. The 

slanted wall also serves as a wall ride. 

Enhanced with brick texture and a granite 

top, this piece might look too good to skate. 



SHARK FIN 

The Shark Fin is a fin shaped 

concrete feature inspired by the 

sleek curves of the fins found on 

sharks. 

Combining transitions with a spine 

feature, the Shark Fin allows skaters 

to attack the obstacle from a variety 

of different angles. More creative 

skaters can use this piece as a 

launch ramp or as a ledge that 

allows you to grind up the piece 

and roll away into transition. 

Just as a shark uses its fins to glide, 

turn, accelerate and roll in the 

ocean, skaters move their bodies in 

a similarly fluid fashion.
