been employed to load a vessel
The Texan has on board one passenger,
of the high freight rates,
According . to Captain Carlisle the
"CHARLIE" CLARK COMES
BACK, CITYHAS FUNDS
Charlie Clark, well known to j ail
the older generation, was "discharged"
from the road department during May,
the discharge to take effect the end
of the month. Consequently it has
been something of a surprise to the
people who know him to see him at
work on the streets lately. ,
Inquiry of George M. Collins, head
of the department, revealed that Clark
was released because of a supposed
lack of funds with which to pay him.:
When an enlarge appropriation lot
June was secured he was notified that
he would be kept on the payroll.;
"Clark is a good man, at least I have
not been able to find a better," said
Collins this morning. "I did not dis-- j
charge him because of Inefficiency,'
but because of a coming shortage of
funds.! .
