Mowilith ® emulsions for technical applications
Adhesives for every task
Wood gluing
For wood the predominant
assembly method is gluing. The
high demands in this application
area are met perfectly by
adhesives based on polyvinyl
acetate emulsions such as
Mowilith DHS S1 with polyvinyl
alcohol as protective colloid. The
most important applications for
these adhesives include: assembly
glue, veneer and surface glues,
glues for edges and laminating
adhesives for laminate sheets. The
final bond strength in general
exceeds the material strength of all
the important types of wood used.

In many cases, water-based wood
glues also need to form waterresistant
bonds. In this application
field, Clariant products such as
Mowilith DHWR, LDL 2555 W and
Mowilith LDL 2510 W, used as a
one-pack or a two-pack
formulation in combination with
hardener, can provide the answer.
With adhesives based on these
emulsions it is no problem to meet
the requirements of the durability
classes D3 (for Mowilith DHWR
and LDL 2555 W) and D4 (for 2 pack
systems with Mowilith LDL 2555 W
and LDL 2510 W) of the European
standard DIN EN 204.

Lamination of wood
Wood adhesives in a broader
sense also include adhesives used
in the finishing of chipboard, when
PVC or impregnated paper films
are applied as decorative and
protective coating.

Adhesives for paper and packaging
In the area of adhesives for paper
and packaging, Clariant’s water
based emulsions are suitable for
an extremely wide range of applications.
Apart from the manufacture
and closing of packaging
materials, they are used in adhesives
for book binding, for lamination
of paper to cardboard, for the
manufacture of cardboard boxes
and paper bags as well as for the
preparation of spiral paper tubes.
Most of the applications in the
graphics industry are covered
including high gloss film print
lamination. Emulsions are also
essential to formulate adhesives for
cigarette manufacture and packaging.

floor and wall coverings, different
substrates and special
performance requirements, the
formulation of suitable floor and
wall adhesives is often fraught
with complex problems.
The trend clearly goes towards the
solvent-free, water based adhesive
systems, because aqueous
adhesives provide the best solution
to overcome environmental and
odour problems.
Clariant’s developments of
emulsions for flooring adhesives
for various floor coverings, e.g.
carpet, PVC, linoleum, polyolefine
layers as well as for parquet
floorings, and others, enable our
customers to formulate adhesives
with very low emission. Consumers
require adhesive systems with
environment protection, e.g. indicated
by the EC 1 label of GEV
which can be fulfilled in Clariant’s
innovative emulsions.
