Effects of Monsoon Rains

1. Rains will flood entire rice fields. Streams that were
2 feet deep may be 6-7 feet deep 2 hours later.
2. Use of vehicles is difficult. A large depression in a
road will flood, blocking a returning vehicleb passage.
3. In areas ground will not absorb rains. Fox-holes and
dug-in positions fill and remained full for weeks.
4. Drownings are a threat to personnel working in paddies.
5. imnersion foot is common, it cuts combat effectiveness
tremendously.
6. Enemy Tactics - Co Bi Than Tan
Enemy mortared battalion CP for 3 consecutive nights between
hours of 2300 and 0600.
1 Battalion (-) attacked a company strong point the second
night in position.
Both mortar and ground attacks took place in heavy rain.
After initial large contact enemy employed squads in most
exercises.
Enemy planted a large number of booby traps after we operated
in the area. (traps planted the night after a sweep)
