2. Background
DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY
HEADQUARTERS UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS
WASHINGTON, DC 20380-0001
a. The requirement has been established for the use of a
laser hardened optical instrument designed to provide general
field observation and fire detection. The Binocular, M22 7X50
System is being procured to fulfill this requirement.
b. The Binocular System, M22 7X50 is comprised of high
optical quality which is assured by precision manufacturing,
full lens coating, and excellent light emission quality. The
left telescope includes a horizontal and vertical reticle
graduated in ten mil increments, and the right telescope consists
of a standard binocular-type reticle. The instrument is
designed for extreme conditions, and is dustproof and waterproof
to a depth of 15 feet. The rubber-coated external surface
absorbs most shock and provides a nonskid, nonslip surface for
more positive holding purposes in any weather conditions.
c. The Binocular System, M22 7X50 is being procured from
the U.S. Army by MCLB, Albany, as an Initial Issue Expense item
and is to be issued and controlled as a pilferable general
