2 Treading lightly For more than 70 years, <strong>Dulux</strong> has led the way in developing innovative, high quality paint products, designed specifically to cope with New Zealand’s unique conditions. Today we’re setting the benchmark in sustainability and building a business that treads lightly on the planet. Over the past few years, we’ve introduced a range of initiatives right throughout our business to ensure our company and products are more environmentally sustainable and that every aspect of our manufacturing process complies with international best practices. The majority of our products carry the tick of approval from Environmental Choice – an independent labelling programme endorsed by the Ministry for the Environment that identifies products that are better for the environment. At our manufacturing facility in Gracefield, Wellington we’ve worked hard to reduce our water use, energy consumption and CO emissions, 2 and have introduced recycling programmes that have seen the amount of solid waste going into landfills dramatically reduced. As a result of our efforts, in 2008 we were the first decorative paint manufacturer in the Southern Hemisphere to achieve the notoriously stringent ISO 14001 environmental management standard certification: an international benchmark for best practice that helps organisations minimise their negative environmental impact. Proud members of the New Zealand Green Building Council and Sustainable Business Network, our commitment to creating a more sustainable future has earned us numerous accolades including the 2007 Sustainable Business of the Year Award (Central Region) and a Green Gold Award at the 2008 Wellington Gold Awards. We take pride in building a business that benefits our staff, our customers, our community and our region and will continue to explore new ways we can minimise our impact on New Zealand’s remarkable environment, to ensure we paint a brighter picture for future generations.
