About this hospital list<br />
<strong>Saga</strong> <strong>Countrywide</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> <strong>List</strong><br />
As a <strong>Saga</strong> Health Insurance customer, you have access to an extensive list of hospitals, day-patient<br />
units, scanning centres and other private healthcare facilities. All of them are listed in this <strong>Saga</strong><br />
<strong>Countrywide</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> <strong>List</strong>.<br />
The benefits of our chosen hospitals<br />
Being treated in advanced medical facilities in a supportive, professional environment can play<br />
an important role in helping patients to recover. The hospitals included in the <strong>Saga</strong> <strong>Countrywide</strong><br />
<strong>Hospital</strong> <strong>List</strong> will endeavour to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. You can<br />
usually have your own private room with en suite bathroom, television and telephone. You will<br />
usually be given a choice of dishes for each course at mealtimes and your visitors may, within<br />
reason, come and go as they wish.<br />
Private hospitals and NHS hospitals with Private Patient Units<br />
This hospital list sets out all the private hospitals you can use. Depending on the list you have<br />
chosen, it also includes NHS hospitals with Private Patient Units (PPUs). A PPU is a ward or unit in<br />
an NHS hospital set aside for private patients.<br />
Other NHS hospitals<br />
While only NHS hospitals with PPUs are listed in this guide, you can also use an NHS bed<br />
nominated as a private bed at any NHS hospital, but in such cases the level of accommodation may<br />
be the same as standard NHS accommodation. In fact, we will cover eligible treatment at any NHS<br />
hospital, as long as it takes private patients.<br />
Day-patient treatment<br />
Advances in medical care mean that many operations are now undertaken on a day-patient basis.<br />
Please note that you may be cared for in an open day ward (rather than a single room) while you<br />
recover from an anaesthetic, to enable nursing staff to monitor your progress more effectively.<br />
Most hospitals now offer day-patient treatment and we have included a number of<br />
purpose-built day-patient units in the <strong>Saga</strong> <strong>Countrywide</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> <strong>List</strong>.<br />
Scanning centres<br />
A scanning centre is a centre in which out-patient CT (computerised tomography),<br />
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and PET (positron emission tomography) is performed.<br />
The centres we recognise are included in this hospital list.<br />
Psychiatric hospitals<br />
If you are covered for psychiatric treatment under your <strong>Saga</strong> Health Insurance policy, you may<br />
receive treatment at any of the psychiatric hospitals listed in this guide.<br />

If you need to claim<br />
If you need to claim, the detailed lists on the following pages will help you to confirm whether your, or<br />
your specialist’s, preferred hospital is on the list you have opted for. You may receive treatment at any<br />
hospital on your chosen list. On rare occasions, where a condition requires treatment or facilities not<br />
available in any hospital on your list, your specialist may wish to refer you to another private hospital.<br />
We will do our utmost to accommodate this, but – as for all claims – you must get written approval<br />
from us before any treatment begins. This allows us to keep control of costs and provide you with<br />
guidance on your claim.<br />
There may be rare occasions when we suspend the use of a hospital or another facility listed in the<br />
<strong>Saga</strong> <strong>Countrywide</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> <strong>List</strong> to protect the interest of our customers.<br />
We pay bills direct<br />
Wherever possible we settle bills directly with the hospital so that you do not have to worry about<br />
paying out large amounts of money. Some hospitals may ask you to pay for out-patient treatment at<br />
the time of your consultation. We have a simple procedure that means you can reclaim these smaller<br />
amounts from us directly.<br />
