Meggitt’s air data systems sense, compute and provide digital
data for primary and secondary flight displays, aircraft flight
control and weapon-aiming systems in a range of fixed and rotary
wing aircraft. Altitude, airspeed, Mach, vertical speed and angle
of attack are just some of the parameters we sense and transmit
digitally to aircraft systems.
The system provides data for primary control on third-generation
combat aircraft and front-line training. However, Meggitt’s
distributed air data systems for the C-130J and C-27J transport
aircraft are civil TSO-certified and can be adapted easily to the
needs of a wide range of different commercial aircraft types.
Like many Meggitt products, our systems function in
environmental extremes, from the arctic, through desert,
to tropical conditions.

ON MILITARY JETS
Meggitt’s distributed air data system on the Eurofighter
Typhoon is essential to the controlled flight of this highly agile
and inherently unstable aircraft.
Integral multi-function probes align with airflow over the
aircraft’s skin, providing the flight control computer with data
that is accurate throughout vertiginous climbs and dives and
despite extreme temperature cycling, vibration and g forces.
ON COMBAT HELICOPTERS
Conventional air data systems rely on pressure readings for
forward speed which deteriorate below 30 knots. Serviceproven
on three continents, ours is the only system capable of
providing airspeed in three axes down to zero knots, even in
reverse and transverse flight. Used on the Apache, this data
improves air crew situational awareness during low speed
manoeuvres. It feeds the weapon control system, making
it a vital component of any attack helicopter’s operational
capability.
