Dear Parents,
The Festive Season is almost here and all the children are busy practising for their Christmas concerts.
I am enclosing information about concerts, parties and Christmas lunch in this letter. Please read it
carefully as there is a lot happening in the next few weeks! We look forward to seeing you at some of
these events.
Some good news – Mrs Marriott has had a baby girl – Emily Eva Marriott 8lb 7oz and Mrs Cramp her
second girl, 6lb 11oz Freya Denise Cramp. Congratulations to them both.
Don’t forget it is our annual Christmas Fayre tomorrow and we look forward to seeing many of you then!

Newsletter No 3 November 2012
Cake sale and raffle for MacMillan Cancer Care
We will be holding a cake sale in school for the Junior
classes on 29
.
th November and selling raffle tickets
for parents on the gate prior to school and on the
Infant playground after school. This event is being
organized by the family of two of our children whose
father is very sadly terminally ill. Please support this
worthwhile cause.
St George’s Park
On Monday 19 th November Mr Riley took 14
members of the school football team to
St George’s Park. During their visit they had full use of the
indoor pitch to themselves before taking part in a training
session led by a fully qualified England FA coach. The
session was held in front of 50 Academy coaches from
professional clubs all over the country, including
representatives from Manchester United and Aston Villa
and professional national team coaches. This was led by the
FA to demonstrate to the coaches how to work with
children between the ages of 9 and 11. It was also a
massive opportunity for our children to work with some of
the best in the business and play football in the best
facilities. The children were then allowed to play a game on
the pitch after their session with the coach. Finally they
were shown around St George’s Park and were allowed to
see the England dressing room and the outdoor Wembley
pitch.
Christmas Charities
We try to support charities during the run up
to Christmas through donations at concerts
and in lieu of sending Christmas cards. You
have always been so very generous on these
occasions when the school community tries to
help those who are less fortunate than we
are. This year we have decided to support 3
different charities over the Christmas
period and to ask for donations to support
them at all our forthcoming Christmas
concerts.
The charities are:
Infants Footprints Orphanage
Y3 & 4 Acorn’s Children’s Hospice
Y5 & 6 Unicef

these very worthwhile projects.
Site Supervisor Vacancy
We currently have a vacancy for a Site
Supervisor, 35 hours per week. The details for

Christmas parties
We will be organising the Christmas parties in the same way as last year, although this year we
will be providing a hot dinner instead of sandwiches. We encourage every child to pay for a
school lunch on their party day (£2.10) and the cook and AFWS provide party food (hot dogs or
veggie dogs, chips, salad, cakes, drinks, pop etc) at lunchtime. All the children sit down
together for their party food (rather than the usual canteen service). Last year the children
really enjoyed this so we hope everyone will take part again this year.
All other classes will be able to have the normal hot dinner when it is not their party day.
Please send party lunch money on the Monday of the week of the party.

AFWS Christmas Fayre – Saturday 24 th November 1.00 - 4.00p.m.
It’s tomorrow! We hope many of you will come along to enjoy all the wonderful
attractions. We have lots of stalls, games and fun activities and THE BEST Santa’s
Grotto in town! Come and have fun and support the school at the same time. We still need
lots of helpers so please let us know if you have some time to spare to help run a stall or
clear up at the end.
Parking on St Mary’s Drive
Please do not block residents’
drives or the roads around
school so that traffic cannot
get past. A few weeks ago an
ambulance had difficulty
getting through because a
few thoughtless parents had
blocked the access.
Christmas Lunch–Friday 7 th December-£2.10
Please remember to return the slip sent out last week
or phone/email the office by Monday 26 th
November if you would like your child to have a
delicious Christmas Lunch! We need to know by then
so that the cook can order enough turkey. If you
normally use ParentPay, please continue to do so but
otherwise, just send the money in on Monday 3 rd
December in an envelope with your child’s name, class
and mark that it is for the Christmas lunch. The
majority of children have a dinner on this day
St. Mary’s Advent Trail
From 1st December to 6th January, St Mary's Church in Stretton will be involving as many people
as possible in an Advent trail around the village looking for daily clues which will eventually make
up the Christmas story. A booklet will be available with the story inside, with gaps that you fill in,
with the words as you find them each day. The clue will be displayed in the Church each day and in
shops and businesses in their window for a day. You can pick up an application form from inside
Church and we will need to have all the forms in by 9th January. A prize will be awarded during
the 10.00a.m service on January 13th at St. Mary’s Church.
Get clued up, look for the stars, and don’t miss out this Christmas.

Good News
Miss Harvey and Mrs Russell have been
accepted to run in the 2013 London marathon in
April. They are raising money for Prostate
Cancer UK and Breast Cancer Care. On 15 th
February we are going to have a sporting
marathon day where children may bring a
donation and wear sports clothes, then join in
with sports activities all day. Look out for
further details.
If you see the marathon runners out training
give them a cheer!
If you enjoyed taking part in the Tunnels
project please could you complete the online
evaluation on www.sln2.net login screen.
Reminders
� All in one hat, scarves & gloves – Can we just
make you aware that the hats attached to
scarves and gloves are causing a few
problems in the infants. Children tend to put
their hands forward when they fall,
automatically pulling their heads to the floor
resulting in bumped heads.
� We would really appreciate it if when coming
to Breakfast Club you try to avoid paying
with £20 notes. Thank you for your cooperation.
� Please remember that when using the Bear
Library we ask that there should be no
eating or drinking in the Bear Library.
Road Safety Message
It’s autumn and the clocks have gone
back! This means the evenings are dark
sooner and some days can be very dull,
and of course it will start to get cold so
its winter coat time and hoods up, but...
Can you be seen?
Make sure you wear something light
coloured, reflective or fluorescent
Can you see properly before you cross
the road?
Take your hood off your head to Stop,
Look and Listen
It’s difficult for vehicle drivers to see
you when you’re in dark clothing and when
there’s no street lights so please ….
