Upcoming Events Business Seminar Series - SUCCESS CONTINUED Business Seminar Series run successfully in March 2011, with three enlightening seminars attracting more that 80 attendees each. BAED would like to congratulate the speakers, namely Dr. Michailidis and Mr. Missopoulos (Addressing Marketing Issues through Innovative Logistics Management Solutions), Dr. Psychogios (Maximise Performance by Energising People) and Dr. Nikolaidis (Creating a Competitive Advantage by Upgrading Services), for sharing their knowledge and delivering truly insightful presentations. Cristina Catalina Chirita, MSc in Management, CITY College, comments: “I attended the seminar delivered by Dr. Zenon Michaelides and Mr. Fotis Missopoulos. This was a good opportunity not only for current students and alumni, but also for other participants outside CITY College, to gain insights from two distinctive academics in the field of Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Theoretical aspects were presented together with some practical examples that enabled the audience to obtain knowledge about current marketing issues faced by companies, to be solved through logistics management solutions. The Series will continue in April and May 2011, with another four seminars. The first one, titled “Strategies for Navigating Effectively your Company in a Recession”, will be delivered on 7 April, in English, by Prof. Sanderson, University of Bradford, and Mr. Kehaghias, Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management, CITY College. The second seminar has been scheduled to take place on 14 April on the topic “Effective Sales Strategies in a Crisis Period”. This seminar will be delivered in Greek by Mr. Bertsimas, Marketing Consultant. In addition, Mr. Kehaghias will deliver a seminar titled “Introducing Innovation in Modern Organisations”, on 12 May. This seminar will be delivered in English. On 19 May, Mrs. Papakonstantinou, Lecturer, CITY College, and Dr. Nikolaidis have been invited to deliver a seminar in Greek on “Developing Effective Communication Strategies”. Finally, on 26 May, Dr. Szamosi, Senior Lecturer, CITY College will deliver a seminar titled “Have Organisations Learn Nothing? Why Workers Continue to Resist Change”. Conference on Hotel and Hospitality Management The recent 1-day conference on hotel and hospitality management, organised by BAED on 12 March 2011, was a great success! It was attended by more than 80 CITY students and alumni, who enjoyed a number of interesting and informative presentations. These were delivered by Mr. Mavroudis, Hotel Manager, Ekies Resort; Mrs. Routsou, Director of Human Resources, Met Hotel; Mrs. Arapoglou, Sales and Marketing Executive, Premier Luxury Resort; Mrs. Barata, Production Manager, Sani Festival and Sani Gourmet, Sani Resort; Mrs. Mamada, General Manager, Porto Palace; Mr. Liassidis, Senior Lecturer, CITY College; and Dr. Nikolaidis. Cristina Catalina Chirita, MSc in Management, CITY College, comments: “It was an intensive series of sessions that covered the main functional activities within a hotel, namely Food and Beverage, Marketing and Sales, Human Resources and General Management. We had the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge from both theoretical and practical perspectives in the hotel industry, alongside the possibility of networking with successful professionals in their field. Overall, it was a very well-organized event that consolidated our knowledge, enhanced our learning experience at CITY College and added value to our entire preparation for the challenging and dynamic business world.” Among the topics that were covered in the conference were Building Service Quality in Hospitality Organisations; Best Practices in Food and Beverage Management; Marketing and Sales Management Techniques; and Human Resource Practices in the Hotel Industry. Enhancing the Students’ Experience On 8 and 15 March 2011, BAED undergraduate students were given the opportunity to visit the Athenian Brewery. Mrs. Vicky Topaloudis, Former Vice President, Tommy Hilfiger, was invited as a guest lecturer on 22 March 2011 and she provided BAED undergraduate and postgraduate students with valuable insight on “Branding”. On 30 March 2011, postgraduate students attended a guest lecture delivered by Mr. Karasavvidis, IT Manager, LIDL Hellas, on the topic “IT and Logistics: The Case of LIDL Hellas”. Cristina Catalina Chirita On 22 March 2011, Mrs. Karakasidou, Branch Manager, Millennium Bank, successfully delivered a guest lecture on "Challenges and Perspectives in the Banking Sector".
