COMPANY PROFILE<br />
Established in 1988, <strong>Uniflair</strong> S.p.A. specializes in the design,<br />
production and marketing of precision air conditioning,<br />
technical cooling systems and modular access floors with<br />
the specific function of providing technologically advanced<br />
and reliable solutions for the construction industry,<br />
telecommunications-internet providers and for industrial and<br />
comfort cooling.<br />
Launched in the national market, <strong>Uniflair</strong> rapidly expanded<br />
into the rest of Europe and to other continents and is currently<br />
present in more than <strong>60</strong> countries worldwide through<br />
subsidiaries and selected partners. The <strong>Uniflair</strong> organization<br />
is composed of the Headquarters at Conselve (Padua),<br />
production sites, Research and Development laboratories,<br />
branch offices located in Milan, Rome and Naples, in addition<br />
to subsidiaries in <strong>Spa</strong>in, Germany, Hungary, South Africa,<br />
India and China.<br />
The main production site serving the global market is located<br />
in Italy, with additional production sites in China and India<br />
which serve the local markets. The Italian Head Office<br />
employs around 300 staff in its central Headquarters of<br />
110,000 m2 (40,000m2 of which are dedicated to production).<br />
As a whole, the <strong>Uniflair</strong> S.p.A. Group is supported by over 450<br />
employees.<br />
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT<br />
Innovation has always been the mainstay of <strong>Uniflair</strong>’s development: considerable company resources have been invested in<br />
research into new application solutions intended to assure product excellence with an unbeatable level of reliability. The whole<br />
production and management system is run based on an ISO 9001 certified quality model, <strong>Uniflair</strong> has also achieved ISO 14001<br />
certification.<br />
<strong>Uniflair</strong>’s large capacity BRE* chillers are certified as highly energy efficient chillers and have been admitted onto the Energy<br />
Technology List (ETL), a list which has been established by the British Government agency “The Carbon Trust” to promote the<br />
adoption of proven low environmental impact solutions.

The precision air conditioning range of solutions are able to control<br />
the temperature and humidity inside technological rooms. Dissipation<br />
of the heat generated by the equipment served is necessary to<br />
ensure the operation and reliability of these complex systems and is<br />
fundamental to avoid interruption of service.<br />
These applications, often referred to as “mission critical”,<br />
include medium to large size data centers, server rooms, control<br />
centers, laboratories and communication rooms (fixed and mobile<br />
telecommunications).<br />
High standards of design, development and production exist for<br />
these products, the same applies to the “Aquaflair Technical<br />
Cooling” product line, encompassing water chillers for industrial and<br />
residential use. Synonymous with technical excellence, the “<strong>Uniflair</strong><br />
chiller” forms the heart of the installation which allows the chilled<br />
water temperature to be maintained constant in industrial processes,<br />
for precision air conditioning or any other type of ambient.<br />
All the products are optimized to guarantee high energy efficiency,<br />
above all at partial loads, offering free-cooling solutions and<br />
integrated energy recovery incorporated within the unit.<br />
Modular access floors, originally created for purely technical needs<br />
inside technological rooms during the ‘70s, have developed over time<br />
to become the ideal solution for uniting practicality and design in<br />
the hi-tech sector. The space recovery requirements and requests<br />
for greater versatility of a building, combined with respect for the<br />
creativity of the designer/architect make <strong>Uniflair</strong>’s modular access<br />
floors an excellent solution for system integration as well as design<br />
elements both for indoor and outdoor spaces. A sealed floor is also<br />
available which is suitable for operating rooms, clean rooms etc.<br />
A perfect example of the attention <strong>Uniflair</strong> dedicates to innovation is<br />
represented by ecoflair ® , a new modular system of air conditioning<br />
integrated within the access floor. The ecoflair ® system combines<br />
the flexibility of operational design with the individual comfort of<br />
the occupants who can choose their personal ambient temperature,<br />
while at the same time guaranteeing higher energy savings compared<br />
to traditional systems. Since this system is modular and integrates<br />
perfectly in a modular access floor, it can be easily adapted over the<br />
lifespan of the building itself.<br />

WHY UNIFLAIR?<br />
Modern development in data centers, such as Blade Servers or Tera routers, and in high performance cooling, in terms of both comfort<br />
process applications, has significantly increased the required levels of efficiency, reliability, flexibility and cooling capacity.<br />
Combining cutting-edge technology with energy efficiency and environmental protection, <strong>Uniflair</strong> proposes solutions which ensure<br />
continuous operation together with a high EER in all operating conditions.<br />
Air conditioning solutions based on the use of perimeter units have evolved over recent years and are now able to cool high density loads to<br />
such a degree as to obtain TÜV certification. Integration with the system of the Technical Cooling water chillers allows extremely high levels<br />
of energy efficiency to be obtained together with reliability, precision and reduced acoustic impact.<br />
Equipping the chillers with technology such as indirect Free Cooling, electronic expansion valves and double screw or multi compressors<br />
operating in tandem leads to a greater COP even during partialization of the cooling capacity.<br />
Free-Cooling<br />
When a system operates all year round and<br />
therefore also at low temperatures, high energy<br />
saving can be achieved by using free-cooling<br />
solutions.<br />
Efficiency at Partial Load<br />
It is unusual for a system to operate at full<br />
load in real conditions. For this reason it is<br />
necessary to maximize partial load operation<br />
in order to reduce energy consumption of the<br />
infrastructure.<br />
Optimized Management<br />
All the <strong>Uniflair</strong> units, precision air conditioning<br />
units, Active Floor modules and chillers, can<br />
be linked together, maximizing the operating<br />
parameters and the real needs of the system.<br />
Double Screw Compressors<br />
The large chiller series is equipped with double<br />
screw compressors specifically designed<br />
to be used with R134a for modulation of the<br />
refrigerant load, optimum distribution of the<br />
oil and lubrication of the bearings in order<br />
to achieve uncompromising efficiency and<br />
reliability.<br />
Operating Expense<br />
<strong>Uniflair</strong> CRACs and chillers are designed for<br />
a low power consumption. This means low<br />
operating costs of an infrastructure (OPEX),<br />
with direct economic benefits.<br />
High Efficiency Refrigerant<br />
The environmental impact of chillers is<br />
significant, and can be expressed as a<br />
contribution both directly (GWP) and indirectly<br />
(TEWI).<br />
The use of R134a and R410A allows operation<br />
with extremely low impact values and, thanks<br />
to its thermodynamic characteristics is<br />
distinguished by intrinsically high efficiency.<br />
Modularity and Flexibility<br />
New server technology has introduced an<br />
increased level of modularity in the growth<br />
of the infrastructure, cooling solutions must<br />
therefore allow for modular planning and<br />
integration within the existing system and adapt<br />
automatically to the new load conditions of the<br />
room.<br />
Security<br />
The <strong>Uniflair</strong> range has been designed for mission<br />
critical installations requiring uncompromised<br />
reliability.<br />
Efficiency and Sustainability<br />
Reducing energy consumption means protecting<br />
the environment, limiting indirect CO2 emissions<br />
into the atmosphere contributes to a reduction<br />
in global warming and running costs with real<br />

Precision and Reliability: the units use advanced algorithms to accurately<br />
control the temperature of the chilled water. Each component is<br />
continuously monitored to guarantee it is always used within operating<br />
limits and will signal any faults before breakdown occurs.<br />
Connectivity and Local Area Network: <strong>Uniflair</strong> microprocessor controls can<br />
“talk” to the most common supervision systems (Building Management<br />
Systems) including: Modbus, Bacnet, LonWorks, Trend, Metasys, TCP/IP<br />
and SNMP. Aquaflair chillers can “talk” to each other, resulting in excellent<br />
control of multi-unit systems, managing all the cooling resources and units<br />
on stand-by (either on a timebasis or alarm).<br />
Hot spot and humidity control: The <strong>Uniflair</strong> CRACs have precise control over<br />
temperature and humidity and can monitor and maintain a constant pressure<br />
in all operating conditions underneath the floor even during standard and<br />
emergency maintenance, thus avoiding the creation of hot spots.<br />
Management of the whole system allows energy consumption to be optimized and strategies of integrated<br />
control to be implemented which would otherwise not be possible.<br />
<strong>Uniflair</strong> ‘s precision air conditioning units, Active Floor modules and chillers can be linked together by a<br />
LAN, maximising the operating parameters and the real needs of the system.<br />
Particular attention has been paid to the management logic which is aimed at reducing the energy<br />
requirement by means of a “tracking logic” for the current thermal load.<br />
The temperature of the chilled water varies dynamically in such a way as to minimize compressor<br />
consumption and the use of free-cooling, maintaining the desired temperature within the room.<br />

ELECTRONIC EXPANSION VALVE (EEV)<br />
The very latest proven technologies have been applied in the new generation of <strong>Uniflair</strong> units,<br />
including the use of electronic expansion valves in all models.<br />
This innovation provides highly efficient electronic control of the flow of refrigerant in a precise<br />
and stable fashion unmatched by any traditional mechanical expansion valve.<br />
Under the control of the UNIFLAIR Control System, the EEV provides accurate control of<br />
the refrigerant superheat in order to ensure an increase in the efficiency at low external<br />
temperatures because it enables the unit to operate at much lower condensing pressures than<br />
would be possible with a traditional mechanical valve.<br />
The dehumidification function is also controlled through the operation of the EEV.<br />
In this way dehumidification is achieved without a reduction in the airflow rate, ensuring<br />
continuous and uniform air distribution in the space and avoiding any sudden variations in<br />
discharge air temperature.<br />
The management software of the unit is also capable of checking the complete state of<br />
operation, activating policies of predictive maintenance and recording eventual anomalies. In<br />
particular, for the chillers, the monitoring of the refrigerant load provides the possibility of rapid<br />
intervention the event of leakage.<br />

Every component of the <strong>Uniflair</strong> chillers and precision air conditioning units has been chosen in<br />
accordance with the major design criterion of energy saving for maximum efficiency.<br />
In this context, just one example is the selection of EC (Electronically Commutated) direct<br />
current motors.<br />

TANDEM<br />
In many applications the room load can vary enormously<br />
during the course of a single day or from season to<br />
season. This in turn will cause wide variations in the<br />
amount of cooling required at any given moment.<br />
In these circumstances it is very important to use<br />
cooling systems which very high energy-efficiency at<br />
part-load. <strong>Uniflair</strong> models (with suffix **21, **42) are<br />
specifically designed with part-load environments in<br />
mind; fitted with two compressors operating in parallel<br />
on the same circuit, these models offer two stages<br />
of cooling on a single circuit of refrigeration. As the<br />
evaporator coil surface area (designed for the capacity<br />
of two compressors) is fixed, one single compressor<br />
in operation (fig. B) benefits from the availability of a<br />
“double sized” evaporator coil - this maximisation of the<br />
cooling effect leads to obvious increases in part load<br />
efficiencies and resultant benefical rise in the part-load<br />
COP (Coefficient Of Performance) . In order to compare<br />
part-load efficiencies of different units, a number of<br />
different parameters have been developed which take<br />
into account the COP at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% load<br />
and calculate a weighted mean.<br />

The new types of installations introduced by high density servers have resulted in the need for analysis and study of cooling<br />
solutions which can be adapted to specific projects. <strong>Uniflair</strong> provides different solutions in relation to the specific characteristics<br />
of each installation. They are based on the ability to provide an air supply at the correct temperature at the suction section of the<br />
racks, necessary to guarantee optimal working conditions of the server. The various solutions can be integrated to offer a system<br />
capable of guaranteeing the operation of the server at very high loads (up to 40 kW/rack).<br />

INDIRECT FREE-COOLING<br />
Energy consumption continues to be a major constituent in the operating costs of modern systems. Guaranteeing the maximum reliability in<br />
operation at the same time as reducing energy consumption to the minimum is the result of technical product choices.<br />
The Energy-Saving versions have been designed to apply this concept to best effect.<br />
The operating principle is based on the ability to provide free cooling for a space when the outdoor temperature is below that of the space<br />
itself; and the lower the outdoor temperature, the greater is the energy saving.<br />
Free-cooling is that which is provided without the need to operate compressors and, in this case, is indirect i.e.: it does not depend upon<br />
pulling outside air into the space, so it is able to continue to guarantee stable humidity and air quality in the space.<br />

When a system is used for technological or industrial processes which operate all year round, it is important in terms of energy saving to<br />
use solutions which exploit these conditions. Chillers equipped with free-cooling devices not only reduce energy consumption compared to<br />
traditional systems but also limit CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, contributing therefore to reducing global warming.<br />
When the external temperature is low enough, the free-cooling system produces chilled water using external air only, significantly reducing<br />
energy consumption since it is limited to the fans.<br />

STANDARD FEATURES<br />
Active Floor ® is a flexible and modular system for cooling Data<br />
Centers with medium and high density loads.<br />
Integrated within a modular access floor in front of the intake<br />
section of the rack, the <strong>Uniflair</strong> Active Floor ® fits exactly into a<br />
modular access floor panel measuring <strong>60</strong>0 mm x <strong>60</strong>0 mm.<br />
The cold air produced by the Close Control perimeter units is<br />
directly channeled to the source of the thermal load thanks to the<br />
advanced adjustment of the direction of the airflow. The Active<br />
Floor ® creates a high density bubble of air which is maintained at<br />
a constant temperature along the whole intake section of the rack,<br />
