AACC Commemorative Stamp Want to spruce up those letters to your friends and fellow alums and serve a good purpose too? Use the new AACC commemorative stamp that celebrates Anne Arundel Community College’s 45th Anniversary (1961 – 2006). The stamps may be purchased online at zazzle.com (keyword Anne Arundel Community College). Twenty-seven percent of the profits from the sale of the stamps goes to the AACC Foundation, Inc. Prices vary with the amount of stamps you buy. ALUMNI UPDATES in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit have been published in a calendar from the National Association of Nurses and also in Preemie Magazine. 1998: JOHN RALEY received his Masters of Fine Arts Degree from NYU’s Tisch School of Performing Arts in May 2007. He has accepted a teaching position at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. 1999: In 2003, THOMAS TERENYI received his bachelor's degree in Information Systems from UMBC. He currently works as a Web Developer/Systems Integrator at Broadridge Financial Solutions. He and his wife are expecting a baby boy. 2000s 2000: CHRISTY WAGNER of Frostburg currently works in Human Resources at the Maryland Environmental Service. 2001: TIMOTHY L. WHITE became a police officer in Greenbelt, in September. He was formerly employed as a police officer with the Anne Arundel County Police Department. Timothy resides in Glen Burnie with his wife and three children. 2005: AMY BALONIS and MICHAEL FERANEC were married in November. Amy completed the physician assistant program at AACC. She received her bachelor's in biology from University of Maryland Baltimore College and her master's of medical science at St. Francis University. 2006: A January wedding is planned for SARAH SLATTERY and JEREMY GILLIKIN. Sarah graduated with an associate’s degree in graphic design and general studies. She is employed as a dental assistant in Annapolis. Jeremy is serving as the Young Adult Worship Pastor at the Bay Area Community Church. 2006: An April wedding is planned for JENNIFER DARBRO and MARK STEGMEIER. Jennifer is currently employed by RV Resort. She plans to return to AACC for a degree in medical assisting. 2007: JESSICA SCHILLO (CALDWELL) and JONATHAN SCHILLO were married on June 8, 2007 at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. A reception followed on the S.S. Lady Baltimore. Jessica is currently employed as a physical therapist assistant at AAMC and Jonathan is a Second Lieutenant of the First Division U.S. Marine Corps. An October wedding was planned for TRACY SAVOY and DUSTIN D’ANGELO. Tracy is a graduate of Old Mill high school. She attended Catholic University before transferring to AACC. IN MEMORIAM: GRACE CHAPMAN, member of the Steering Committee that founded AACC, died July 21, 2007. WALTER JONES, Class of 1971, died September 19, 2007.Walter graduated from Severna Park High School, AACC and the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Tennessee, where he was top in his class. He served in the Navy as an aviation electronics technician servicing helicopters. ROBERT ROSS, Class of 1972, died August 10, 2007. Robert attended California State College in Pennsylvania and AACC. He served in the Navy during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. Robert retired after working 35 years as a purchasing officer for the Anne Arundel County school system. He began his career as an industrial arts teacher at Brooklyn Junior High School, Corkran Junior High, and Northeast High School. CARLA MATHEWS, Class of 1980, died September 23, 2007. Carla lived in Melfa, Virginia for 20 years before moving to Stevensville. She attended Anne Arundel Community College, and then worked as a social services director at Knollwood Manor Nursing Home in Millersville. LISA SACHS, Class of 1990, died October 6, 2007. Lisa graduated from Anne Arundel Community College as valedictorian. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s in business and accounting from the University of Baltimore. Shortly after passing the certified public accountant exam, she founded L.A. Sachs and Associates, an accounting firm in Shady Side where she served many local and regional customers. JOHN KRESSLER, Class of 1994, died September 21, 2007. John graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1960, earned a bachelor's degree in biology and education from Western Maryland College in 1964 and a master's degree in biochemistry from the University of Maryland College Park in 1966. He earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland at the Baltimore School of Medicine in 1972.Later he earned an associate's degree in fine arts and music from Anne Arundel Community College in 1994 and a bachelor of arts degree in music and composition from the University of Maryland Baltimore Campus in 1998. Currently he was working towards a Ph.D. in ethno- musicology at the University of Maryland College Park. He was to graduate in May 2008. John served in the Army as a major with the Medical Corps, then as a general surgeon at Baltimore Washington Medical Center for 20 years. Subsequently, he taught geography at Anne Arundel Community College for 16 years. KATHY JO LETWINSKY MORIARTY, Class of 2007, died August 14, 2007. Kathy graduated from Arundel High School and was most recently attending Anne Arundel Community College. JAMES SMITH died November 3, 2007. James attended AACC and was certified as an emergency medical technician. He was a member of Riviera Beach and Ritchie volunteer fire departments, and was a master diver and member of the Scuba Diving Association. 31 • Anne Arundel Community College • Winter 2008 ‘Experience AACC’ Event is a Big Success! December 7th over 60 alumni, college retirees, faculty and staff enjoyed a reception to mix and mingle with friends and meet local author Peg Burroughs who sold signed copies of her book to benefit an AACC communication arts scholarship as well as view Rob Hendry’s, class of 1970, photography exhibit “AACC Through the Years.” Rob Hendry collected or shot the photos showing the college’s transitions from its birth in the 1960s to present day.
