A Word From the Principal...
It’s hard to believe that
spring is nearly here there
are only a few months of
school remaining. Spring
time always seems to get
crazy busy and this spring
will be no exception.
This March brings us our
spring music concert which
will begin at 7 PM with the
choir first in the gym followed
by the band in the
auditorium. We will follow a
similar format to our winter
concert. Academic Olympics
are also this month on Tuesday,
March 6th. Our middle
school play titled, After
Store Hours, will be held in
the FBMS auditorium on
March 20th at 7 PM. This
fun filled play is about manikins
who come to life after
the store closes! It looks to
be very entertaining. If you
from March 1st
through the 28th. Student’s
art work from last semester
and this semester will be on
display. On March 28th
there will be a reception
from 6-7 PM to recognize
our student’s artwork. Our
science Club Carnival is
March 22nd from 5-8 PM.
The following week our science
fair will be running
Monday, the 26th and Tuesday,
the 27th. Track also
begins at the end of this
month on March 26th.
I would like to thank every
parent/guardian that participated
in our survey that
went out towards the end of
February. We are looking
forward to going through
the results and most definitely
value your input. We
are hoping that we can make
a few changes in the future
that will help you and most
importantly help our students.
Be sure to check out the
latest on the Principals challenge
on page two. Many of
our students are taking on
the challenge and excelling!
We are forming a new group
at FBMS called S.W.A.G.S.
The acronym stands for
Students Wanting A
Greater School. The idea
for this group came from a
group of students who
wanted to help make a positive
difference in our
school. Any student is welcome
to join our team. We
will be addressing important
issues such as bullying. The
team will be making headway
beginning this month. Stay
tuned for more information
to come.
Thanks for reading!
In next month’s issue you will see many more photos and stories that include
the following: our ski trip, boys basketball, spelling bee champs, Speech participants,
band, and choir! Be sure to check it out next month...
As I train for this marathon I
am finding out the in order to
complete this task it requires
not only a fit body but perhaps
more importantly it also requires
a strong mind. The Japanese
shoe/clothing company,
ASICS, is actually an acronym
that stands for Anima Sana in
Corpore Sano. In Latin this
means “a sound mind in a sound
body”. This philosophy runs
true in so many different aspects
of our lives.
Our students at FBMS and
every student in the country
for that matter are faced with
the most difficult challenges
every day. Middle school in par-
Challenge! UPDATE!
ticular can be an extremely
challenging time for these children
turning into young adults.
Despite the challenges they
face everyday I am continually
amazed by their resiliency. I
presented these students with
another (what I believe to be
fun) challenge and their response
has truly been inspiring
in many cases. Mrs. Wilson’s
PE/Health class this semester
has logged well over 500+ miles.
One student, Thomas Mathews,
has already completed the
reading marathon in Library! He
read 4238 pages earning himself
a gift certificate to Subway.
He plans on completing
another “Reading Marathon” or
perhaps even more.
The staff at FBMS continues
to come up with new and fun
challenges for our students to
take part. Student’s in speech
are also getting involved in the
challenge. Speech students will
be attempting to learn 100 new
vocabulary words before I run
my marathon at the end of May.
I heard they are already up to
20 words which is pretty awesome!
Be sure to stay tuned for more
updates on the Principal’s Challenge.
STUDENTS OF THE MONTH: FEBRUARY
Each month teachers at FBMS
select a student from each
grade level to bestow upon
them the honorary title of
“Student of the Month”.
Teachers look at more than
just grade reports and attendance
reports. They also
evaluate student’s behavior
such as manners and being
kind to others. Students who
are selected receive gift certificates
to local businesses
from Montana Moose, Rosebud
Foods, and Subway. We would
like to thank these businesses
for their generous sponsorship.
February’s students of the
month are the following:
 6th Grade—Ruth Knobloch
 7th Grade—Madison Judge
 8th Grade—Bailey Soiseth
Congratulations to these students
for not only being great
I took a survey of 20 students. The results shocked me. Even though it was just a few, as you can see, not all 20 students even
cared about graduating high school. This worries me. If 3 students out of 20 students don’t care about High School, picture
how many in our school feel the same. It is a horrible thing to see in Colstrip. We might be a small town but we need to step it
up. Our school needs to push us students into doing the right thing and pursuing graduation. I feel our school needs a strong
exercise program also because that was even more drastic as compared to the graduation question. Come on Colstrip! Step it
Will Pepper’s & Sean Palmer’s Music Review
On January 1 st 2012 Chris Webby’s new album leaked online. It’s
titled ‘There goes the neighborhood” produced by Dave Zarrow, Slaine and
E-rod are the special guests. On this record, Webby really stepped up his
writing. He has punch lines that are genius. Our favorite songs are “Church”
and “Take me home”. This album has not been officially released, so it is not
available in stores yet. But is available online for downloadable contents.
For this album we give it 3 out of 4 stars!
Kaylee Kerzmann’ and Tyra Limpy review some of today’s modern hit songs!
“We found love” by Rihanna is great song! Kaylee: The beat makes you want to dance but the message reminds
me of a slow love song. I also like the message that love is also in hopeless situations.INFO: This
song is from the album Talk That Talk, and is featuring the Scottish producer/singer Calvin Harris. The
song is a set at a groove of 120 beats per minute.
“Mr. Know It All” by Kelly Clarkson is awesome! The message is really self explanatory. It’s about a guy
who treats his girlfriend bad so she sings this song to let him know she’s not gonna take this anymore. It
really makes girls have a second look on what they look for in a guy. Info: The song was written by Brian
Kennedy, Ester Deam, Brett James, and Dante Jones. I think it’s weird that guys wrote this song. During
live performances she uses a little auto-tune processing. Kelly Clarkson says that the song is about ignorant
people who think they know everything about someone.
“It Girl” By Jason Durulo Is a very cute song! The beat is good and the message is cute. It’s about a guy
who basically finds his dream girl and he sings this song to express his feeling s for her. Info: The song
received positive reviews from music critics. The song was written by Jason Derulo, E. Kidd Bogart, Lindy
Robbins, and Emanuel Kiriakou.
