Strength through partnerships
The Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa and the CSIR have established a cooperation framework in
areas of mutual interest, more specifically in the field of technical assistance applied to the development of projects
in line with national, regional and the NEPAD priorities.
An agreement between the CSIR and the Development Bank of Southern Africa facilitates cooperation between the two
organisations in the field of technical assistance applied to the development of projects in the southern Africa region.
The CSIR manages the Africa Regional Focal Point (RFP) of WAITRO (World Association of Industrial and Technological
Research Organisations), an independent, international non-governmental network of 200 corporate research and
technology organisations. The Africa RFP has 45 member organisations, representing 22 countries. Members are
typically autonomous organisations with a brief to support industry, SMMEs and government with applied research and
technology solutions. This initiative strengthens the Science and Technology base in Africa and is supported by DACST.
