OFFICE HISTORY
Office Profile
Fields of activity / office history
The architects’ office Planquadrat was founded in 1994 by the partners Herbert Elfers, Martin Geskes and
Jörg Krämer and is operated as a partnership.
1998 saw the founding of the architects’ office Planar GmbH in Kielce/Poland together with Jacek Augustin
and Slavek Studniarek. Since 2001 Planquadrat has been operating in the People’s Republic of China, since
2003 in Dubai, U.A.E. In 2005 the architects’ office Planquadrat Middle East, Dubai was founded.
FIELDS OF ACTIVITY
The service spectrum comprises all fields of activity from the fields or urban planning and architecture.
Included among the architectural projects are industrial, commercial, laboratory, administrative and
residential buildings, schools, shopping centres and special usage buildings. The field of urban planning
includes feasibility studies, urban master plans, legally binding land-use plans and services accompanying
marketing. We support projects in all work phases up to general planning. Expert reports and client
consultancy likewise count among our fields of activity as well as the regular participation in national and
international competitions.
VISION
Teamwork that functions well and runs smoothly is the guarantee for the success of the office, which is
reflected in the diversity of the executed projects and the numerous successes achieved in competitions.
The field of activity encompasses all scopes of duties in the areas of urban planning and architecture.
The projects are accompanied throughout all the planning stages, also in the form of general contracting.
The spectrum of the processed orders ranges from industrial and administrative buildings to residential
buildings, conversion projects and rebuildings to commercial buildings and cinema complexes.
Our cautious and sensitive dealings with the urban environment and the way in which we work out
architectural solutions on the basis of functional, technical and economic terms form the trademark of our
Approach. The design of urban habitat is understood to be a complex process, within the framework of
which the diverse aspects of the involved specialized areas are to be integrated equally.
Within this intense interdisciplinary exchange the bases for the realisation of lively projects are created.
Complex and demanding architecture is one of the essential bases for the lasting development of the
environment we have created. We as planners strive to promote this development through realistic
economical and ecological contributions.
We have proven through our projects that high quality buildings can be realised at a reasonable price by
means of intelligent and comprehensive planning.
COOPERATION WITH PLANTEC
Planquadrat - Architects and Urban Planners
In the beginning of 2012, Planquadrat and Plantec decided to form a cooperation for projects
in the Middle East: Planquadrat being an experienced architectural and engineering consultancy which is
offering all planning disciplines and Plantec being an Engineering Management consultancy, that offers
services in the field of project and site management including services in monitoring costs, time and quality.
This combination of two successful experienced entities offers a one-shop-solution for the client and
therefore guarantees the highest level of effectiveness and quality.
CONCEPTUAL PHASE
Out Kit of parts housing design includes for all main MEP requirements, including but not limited to water
and waste drainage, cold water storage, heating, ventilation and lighting.
We understand that modern housing designs require active and passive environmental control features and
an overall sustainable design philosophy from drawing board to completed house. Designing with long term
sustainability in mind is now becoming more fiscally responsible as the net financial benefits in terms of lower
energy use and water costs for example, save families in excess of four times the additional cost of incorporating
sustainable features retrospectively.
‘KIT OF PARTS’ DESIGNS
Plantec - Engineering - Management
Office Profile
Design Metholodgy
Kit of Parts’ approach we will use for the design and construct the housing projects. Essentially, the ‘Kit of
Parts’ approach is about using a range of Pre-Cast Concrete Panels and Pre-Engineered components to deliver
a variety of different types of houses. This system offers particular advantages, which include waste reductions,
factory controlled construction, minimum disruption on and around the site and significant reductions
in costs and construction time.
Pre cast panels come with high quality internal finishes, thus reducing site construction time. Out houses include
full range of MEP services installation, fit-outs and external works. The ‘Kit of Parts’ approach is ideally
suited to the delivery for large housing projects.
Main benefits of Pre-Cast concrete construction are:
• Reduced labour requirements compared to conventional in-situ construction
• Optimum use of materials
• Short construction timeframe
• Quality control environment – products / systems / services
• Structural efficiencies (longer clear spans / reduced construction volume / large free open spaces with
no columns)
• Environmental
Friendliness (reduced use of raw materials / less energy consumption in building process / recycling of construction
waste) Longer Whole Life Cost
Our designs for houses offer a wide range of room sizes and layouts and a range of supports spaces. Standardized
flexible and sound proof partitions can be opened to create larger spaces if necessary. At the design
stage, following the development of the brief and discussions with the client, we will develop whole housing
solutions which fully meet the client’s needs and address the site context.
SUSTAINABILITY
Office Profile
Capabilities Profile
Environmental and Sustainability issues are rising in importance around the world. Buildings, like housing
have a major impact on the environment, not just in terms of material used in the construction, but also in the
use of energy during their lifetime. Sustainability impacts the complete building process; right from design to
construction and operation.
Our housing design will be amongst the most sustainable buildings in the region and can be designed and
constructed to meet the latest BREEAM/LEED requirements. Sustainability will inform the whole of the building
process, right from the design to construction. Main issues to be considered are:
• Orientation of the building on site to maximize the use of daylight
• Reducing the use of Electricity
• Passive Cooling to reduce air-conditioning load
• Recycling of waste water for irrigation
• Thermal mass and insulation to even temperature variations
• Use of renewable energy sources to save on operating costs
• Sustainable construction materials.
We can also build in features like display panels, which will allow the building to be used for part of the curriculum
on environments education.
CAPABILITIES PROFILE
Plantec - Engineering - Management
Plantec was founded by a group of specialists to provide professional services to the entire spectrum of the
Building Construction Industries. With the advent of much larger, multi – disciplined and very complex projects,
it was found that the range of professional services available to our clients had to be expanded in order
to meet their greater need.
Project control attained greater importance due to the complexity of the projects, the necessity for timeous
completion and the high cost of capital. Legislation and case law required more attention and structure in
the conditions of contract.
