THE 2011 ASP ADELAIDE HILLS TARMAC RALLY
PRESENTATION EVENING WASH-UP
The 2011 asp Adelaide Hill Tarmac Rally presentation evening saw the official closing ceremony for this
year’s rally with the combined presentation dinner and fundraising event for Milan Filo and Jason Rowley.
Over 100 competitors, officials and sponsors packed the Goo Roo bar at the Alma Hotel in Norwood SA.
The guests were honoured to be able to spend the evening with the wives and family of Milan and Jason,
who spoke on behalf of both men and thanked the rally organisers, their team, the various emergency
services groups and Dr Bruce Paix and Dr Sok Ping Choeng for the outstanding lifesaving emergency
response to the accident their husbands were involved in. We were privy to an update on their current
situation, being advised that Jason is now in rehabilitation, and on the path to recovery, with Milan
showing very positive signs by coming out of his coma for the first time on Wednesday night.
The fundraiser, an auction that was brilliantly managed by Sean Bennett and the evening’s MC, Heather
Cox, raised over $16,000. Items generously supplied by a plethora of supporting organisations were
snapped up in what can only be described as a bidding frenzy, and the generosity of the attendees was
amazing, with some items bringing up to 7 times their actual value. It was heartening to see the
Australian rally community throwing so much support behind Milan, Jason and their families. To those
that supplied the various items; Octagon, Ultimate Motorsport Events, Southern Districts Car Club,
Clipsal 500, V8 Supercars, CAMS, asp, RaceCam, S&J Automotive, Michael Miels, Supaloc, David
McDonough and Martin Donnon a big thank-you as it was very much appreciated.
We still have three items, with their reserves set via bidding at the “live” auction last night, listed on
eBay for anyone that is interested in purchasing entries to Classic Targa Adelaide 2011 and Targa Wrest
Point 2012, entry to the 2012 Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally or an ECUTek tune from S&J Automotive.
We thank Ultimate Motorsport Events, Octagon Events, and S&J Automotive for the opportunity to
maximise the possible benefits that these items can bring the Filo’s and Rowley’s. To place your bid,
please go to eBay and search for AHTR. The organisers of the 2011 Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally, Ultimate
Motorsport Events and Southern Districts Car Club were also honoured to hand over a cheque to the
Variety Club of SA, the 2011 event charity. With over $12,000.00 raised by both the 2011 Mount Alma
Mile, and the 2011 Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally, it was a great result. 2012 will find both events and the
Variety Club of SA working together again as both teams are committed to achieving and even better
result next year.
The evening culminated with the presentation of awards to the winners of the Australian Modern Tarmac
Championship, Australian Classic Tarmac Championship, SA Tarmac Rally Championship and Round 1 of the
SA Rally Championship. While Matthew and Dennis Sims walked away with the ultimate prize of 1st
Outright, it was apparent that everyone walked away with the warm feeling inside that they had helped
their fellow competitors through some tough times ahead.
Ultimate Motorsport Events would like to thank everyone that has been involved in running of the 2011
Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally and helping with the fundraising for both Variety SA and Milan and Jason. A
special thankyou also must go to those that put forward the auction items and to the team at the
Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) for the huge amount of support they have provided over
the past month.
