Torpedo batteries introduction SUNLIGHT Manufacturing Plant manufactures high power and high energy battery systems for defence applications, according to the strictest international specifications and military standards. Series production of the combat and exercise torpedo batteries takes place in the SUNLIGHT factory in Xanthi, Greece, using state of the art machinery and equipment. Silver-Zinc Torpedo Batteries In the field of torpedo batteries SUNLIGHT uses the Silver-Zinc technology, which actually is the prevailing technology in this field. A Silver-Zinc battery is composed of a pressed or pasted zinc (Zn) powder for the anode and silver oxide (AgO/Ag2O) for the cathode. Aqueous potassium hydroxide (KOH) is the electrolyte for this battery. Primary Torpedo Batteries Silver-Zinc batteries are available as Primary cells for single use (combat battery application), providing the needed power within seconds even after a long period of storage, by insetting the electrolyte. Secondary Torpedo Batteries In addition, secondary torpedo rechargeable cells are for multiple use (exercise torpedo application), which allows the torpedo to run with the same power and duration as a combat battery provides.
