� The premier series of INDYCAR, which debuted in January 1996.<br />

� <strong>IZOD</strong> <strong>IndyCar</strong> <strong>Series</strong> should be used in all references. (e.g. <strong>IZOD</strong> <strong>IndyCar</strong> <strong>Series</strong> cars,<br />

<strong>IZOD</strong> <strong>IndyCar</strong> <strong>Series</strong> champion, <strong>IZOD</strong> <strong>IndyCar</strong> <strong>Series</strong> driver).<br />

Firestone Indy Lights<br />

� The official development series of INDYCAR, which debuted in July 2002.<br />

� Firestone Indy Lights should be used in all references. (e.g. Firestone Indy Lights cars,<br />

Mazda Road to Indy<br />

� The official ladder system of INDYCAR, which debuted in 2010 consisting of the <strong>IZOD</strong><br />

<strong>IndyCar</strong> <strong>Series</strong>, Firestone Indy Lights, Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear<br />

and the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship powered by Mazda.<br />

Other Key Terms:<br />

� Holmatro Safety Team: Official name of the track safety unit of INDYCAR. Holmatro<br />

Safety Team should be used in all references.<br />

� E85: Official name of the fuel used by the <strong>IZOD</strong> <strong>IndyCar</strong> <strong>Series</strong>. Fuel is a blend of 85<br />

percent ethanol and 15 percent racing gasoline.<br />

� Honda Racing HI12R: Official name of Honda’s Turbocharged V-6 <strong>IZOD</strong> <strong>IndyCar</strong><br />

<strong>Series</strong> engine.<br />

� Chevy INDYCAR V-6: Official name of Chevrolet’s <strong>IZOD</strong> <strong>IndyCar</strong> <strong>Series</strong> engine<br />

� Race car: Not racecar.<br />

� Racetrack: Not race track; also applies to superspeedway.<br />

� SAFER Barrier: Acronym for the Steel and Foam Energy Reduction Barrier in place at<br />

oval tracks. Note the uppercase “B” in all references.<br />

� SWEMS: Acronym for the Suspension and Wheel Energy Management System<br />

employed on all <strong>IZOD</strong> <strong>IndyCar</strong> <strong>Series</strong> and Firestone Indy Lights cars.<br />

� Turn: Uppercase in all references (e.g. Turn 4); also applies to laps (e.g. Lap 100).
